ATTENDANCE MATTERS! ATTENDANCE MATTERS!

Strong attendance is one of the single biggest drivers of student achievement and lifelong success. When students are in class every day, they stay connected to their learning, build strong relationships with peers and staff, and stay on track academically.

What Happens When Students Miss Too Many Days

  • Missing Out on Learning: Every school day builds on the last. Frequent absences mean missing key instruction, hands-on activities, and classroom discussions that cannot easily be made up.

  • Parent-Excused Limit: Parents can excuse up to 10 days of absences per school year. Once a student passes 10 absences, official medical documentation or administrative approval is required for any further absences to be excused.

  • Loss of Privileges: Unexcused or excessive absences can impact student privileges, such as High School Honors Passes (which require under 10 absences for the year) or participation in programs like School-to-Work.

  • Truancy Interventions: Unexcused absences can lead to truancy. If a student accumulates 5 or more unexcused absences in a semester, they are considered habitually truant. School personnel will reach out to schedule a meeting to build a support plan, and unexcused absences may lead to restorative procedures, municipal citations, or court referrals.

Help us keep your student on the path to success by prioritizing daily attendance! If your child must be absent, please remember to notify the school office as early as possible.
