LIVONIA CAREER TECHNICAL CENTER

A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear LCTC Community,
What an incredible week of learning at LCTC!
It’s been exciting to see our students growing more confident, settling into the building, and beginning to form meaningful connections with one another. One of the most special aspects of LCTC is the way students from Churchill, Franklin, Stevenson, and surrounding districts come together creating a strong, unified LCTC community within their classes.
We’re looking forward to welcoming families at our Open House on Wednesday, September 2nd at 6:30 PM. This is a great opportunity for parents and guardians to meet our staff, tour the facility, and learn more about the Career and Technical Education (CTE) program their student is part of this year
.
We hope to see you there!
As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.
With LCTC Pride,
Mrs. Lindsay Gray
Principal

AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY
Starting the Year with Safety and Skills
The Automotive Technology program is off to a strong start! Students are learning the fundamentals of automotive safety while taking their first tour of the lab.
During the walkthrough, they are identifying equipment, tools, and important safety features as they prepare for a year of practical, real-world automotive training.
CAREER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
Students Take the Next Step with Career Internships
Students in the Career Internship Program have been preparing all week to begin their internships on Monday. The internships will run through early January and allow students "real world" experiences in their career areas of interest.
From engineering to nursing to law enforcement placements, interns will get exposure to different career paths and make connections that will serve them well this semester and moving forward.
Prior to starting their internships, LCTC students spent time getting to know one another.
Interns placed at St. Mary's Hospital attended an onboarding meeting last week and became "official" when they received their ID badges.
ENGINEERING DESIGN
Exploring a Future in Civil Engineering
This summer, Mr. Wilson had the opportunity to arrange a site visit with SKE Group, a civil engineering firm in Farmington that is actively involved in the Northville Downs redevelopment project in downtown Northville.
Mr. Emerine, the company's owner and lead project manager, graciously provided a behind-the-scenes tour of the project for Engineering Design student Olivia H., who aspires to pursue a career in civil engineering.
The experience gave Olivia valuable insight into the planning, design, and construction processes involved in a large-scale redevelopment project and offered a firsthand look at the rewarding career opportunities available in the field of civil engineering.
PRE-MEDICINE
Pre-Med Students Kick Off the Year with Teamwork, Trivia & a Little Competition!
Who says learning medical terminology and teamwork can’t be fun? Our Pre-Med students recently joined forces for a day filled with competition, laughter, problem-solving, and plenty of learning!
Students stepped outside their usual classroom groups and worked with new classmates through a variety of team-building games and challenges. One favorite was the Cup Stack Challenge, where teams had to stack cups using only string and a rubber band—and there was a catch: only ONE teammate could talk!
Students quickly discovered that communication, patience, teamwork, and sometimes a little creative thinking were the keys to success.
The competition continued with Kahoot medical trivia, where students tested their knowledge and even picked up some new medical terminology along the way. One lesson they won't soon forget? “-itis” means inflammation!
Those little medical word parts are already starting to add up!
Throughout the day, students competed in games, tackled relays, solved challenges, cheered one another on, and—most importantly—learned how to work with people they may not have known before.
These activities were about much more than just having fun. Healthcare is a team sport. Doctors, nurses, EMTs, medical assistants, therapists, technicians, and countless other healthcare professionals must communicate, problem-solve, and work together every single day.
Our Pre-Med students are just getting started, but they are already learning one of the most important lessons in healthcare: Great things happen when you work together!
What a fun way to kick off another exciting year in Pre-Med!

NEW STUDENT CELL PHONE EXPECTATIONS AT LCTC FOR THE 2026-2027 SCHOOL YEAR
New Rules for Students and Their Electronic Devices
LCTC deeply values every single instructional minute. We know a student's learning requires a distraction-free environment, which is why instructional time across all grade levels remains strictly device-free in alignment with Michigan law and district policy.
Here is what you and your student need to know:
- In-Class Storage: Cell phones, smartwatches, earbuds, and other electronic devices must be off or silenced. Phones must be placed in designated classroom storage areas, and all other devices kept in backpacks during class time. Regardless of classroom procedure, electronic devices may not be visible or used during class unless specifically authorized by the teacher for instructional purposes.
Protecting Class Time: To ensure a disruption-free learning space, please direct urgent family communications through the main office. Students needing to make a phone call home may do so from the office. Phone calls - including FaceTime video calls, and similar communication - are not permitted during the school day during class, or in the hallways or bathrooms.
Enforcement: Teachers will partner with students to handle minor issues in the classroom. A student found with a visible or unauthorized electronic device during during instructional time will receive a teacher-assigned detention for the first offense. A second offense will result in a referral to the LCTC principal for further disciplinary action.
Exceptions & Liability: Accommodations are made for documented medical needs (e.g., continuous glucose monitors) or admin approval. Students bring devices to school at their own risk; the school is not liable for lost, stolen, or damaged property.
