Hough News

We have been enjoying the beautiful weather each and every day at Hough! How lucky that we have such an amazing new playground for our students as they enjoy the abundant sunshine and blue skies! If the bees could just find a different spot.... 😀

  • Our Hawks have been very responsive, respectful, and reflective during the drills and conversations of Safety Week. Although we hope these emergency events will never come to fruition on our campus, we are prepared as much as possible and will continue to maintain safety as our top priority.

  • We have been starting the day with classroom morning meetings that begin promptly at 8 AM. Every staff member has a role during this time, whether it is leading the classroom meetings, supporting and planning activities, or checking in students. We recently began having each homeroom teacher and staff partner develop a greeting system so each student is greeted at the door. It is so important that each student feels connected to the school and is enveloped in the warmth of the "Hough hug" culture. This is truly a bright spot of the day! Since this is such an important time, we will be blowing our whistle to line up at 7:51 so students enter the building at 7:53. This ensures enough time for students to unpack and get seated for the prompt 8 AM start time. Since this is such an important time to build community and connections, please help us ensure your student(s) is on time.

  • I am excited to announce that we will be serving breakfast at Hough starting Monday morning. Any student that wants to eat breakfast is welcome to come to the cafeteria between 7:40-7:50 AM to get breakfast items. Students need to tell a supervisor on the playground that they want breakfast and they will be buzzed into the school to head down to the gym. The menu is posted here and will cost $1.90. The breakfast must be eaten in the lunchroom.

  • Fall parent teacher conferences will take place on Wednesday, October 15th (3:30-7:30) and Thursday, October 16th (1:00-7:00). Parents will schedule a conference time(s) that work best through the online scheduling tool Meet the Teacher. Parents will sign up using their child's full name (as spelled in Infinite Campus) and their child's birthdate. Conferences are 20 minutes long and take place in person, unless an online conference is requested at the time of scheduling. If you choose to meet with any of your child's "specials" teachers (Music, P.E., etc.), we allot 15 minutes. Meet the Teacher will open for scheduling at 8:00AM on Thursday, October 2nd and closes on Thursday, October 9th at 11:59PM. There is no school on Thursday, October 16th and Friday, October 17th for students. Please contact the Hough Office at 847-381-1108 with any questions.

Character Strong

We continue to highlight Character Strong throughout the school day. Congratulations to Mrs. Reckcamp's 5th grade class for winning the Character Strong trophy last week. Mrs. Schumacher observed their PE class and loved the way they worked together and treated their classmates with kindness. Way to go 5th graders!!
