Happy Friday!

Our first marking period ends this coming Friday, October 31st! We will be finalizing grades and mailing them out by Tuesday, November 4th (you should be able to see grades finalized in PowerSchool right away). We will use the finalized grades to determine eligibility for extra-curricular participation (beginning on Wednesday, November 5th).

Our Parent-Teacher Conferences are being held on the evening of November 6th and the afternoon of November 7th. This is a great opportunity to hear about your child's progress directly from their teachers. Invitations will be emailed out at the beginning of next week.

This past Wednesday, students celebrated "Unity Day" by posting positive messages in our main lobby. The week wrapped up with an amazing message, on Friday, from Sweethearts for Heroes. It was a great experience for all of our students and truly speaks to the Slater Spirit we work to weave throughout the fabric of our school community!

The Vermont Principals’ Association has the honor to be the selectors for Vermont’s two representatives for the United States Senate Youth Program Scholarship (USSYP) and they are currently accepting applications! This highly prestigious program offers two students from each state a $10,000 college scholarship, along with a week-long trip to Washington, D.C., where they will meet with U.S. Senators, Congressional staff, and national leaders.

The scholarship is open to high school juniors and seniors who hold an elected position and demonstrate strong leadership, academic excellence, and an interest in public service or government.

Award: $10,000 scholarship + Washington Week experience in D.C.
Eligibility: High school juniors and seniors who hold an elected position
Deadline: October 20th, 2025

Below, you will find several important dates for our Stafford Students (more will be added as the year moves forward):

March 10, 11, and 12

Showcase Visits at FHUMHS for interested sophomores will be November 13th at 8:15 am.
The National Technical Honor Society Induction ceremony will take place on March 4th at 6:00 PM.
Vermont SkillsUSA, which many of our students will be competing in, will be held throughout the week of April 6-9 with the awards luncheon on April 10th.
Signing Night for 26-27 Incoming students will be on April 16th.
The STC End of Year Awards Ceremony will be held on May 29th at 12:00 PM.

ASVAB - There is no cost for this exam

Test Date: Wednesday, November 12th, 2025

Registration Deadline: Monday, November 3rd, 2025

Who takes the test: 10th–12th grade
Purpose: Career exploration tool—military & civilian; no obligation to enlist
Measures: Verbal, math, science, technical, and mechanical skills

Why These Matter:

Help students identify strengths and areas for growth
Provide practice for future tests and career planning
Can open doors to scholarships and opportunities

Register with Mrs. O'Brien in the guidance office. Fee if applicable, is needed upon registration. Cash and Checks accepted. Checks payable to SVUUSD
