MAY MAY

Hello Summer!

Thank You!

As the year comes to a close, I would like to thank all of the parents for your tremendous support during this year. From helping with remote issues to bringing supplies and offering suggestions and words of encouragement, I am so thankful for all of the help you provided to make GT LEAD successful. We are already planning for 2021-2022, and I am looking forward to so many new learning experiences for our students. Thank you again for your support of gifted education in GCISD, and best wishes to you and your family for a safe and fun summer!

Kindergarten Kindergarten

Our brand new kindergarten class explored perseverance and grit learning A B C soduko. Kindergarten students were introduced to a simple version of sudoko.

We also used the Ethic icon to discuss the good and bad things about Max's punishment in The Wild Things. Then the students created their own Wild Things.

We are so proud of our new class!

1st Grade 1st Grade

1st graders completed a unit on authentic research and using data to contribute to our school community. The students decided that we could help the school by asking PTA for some new recess equipment, balls, jump ropes, etc. This week we asked the PTA board for funds through a video.

2nd Grade 2nd Grade

Second graders explored reasons why animals become endangered or extinct. Then designed their own endangered animal with adaptations and told the story of their animal and what had caused the animal to become endangered.

3rd Grade 3rd Grade

Spy School

Third-grade students continued the popular spy school unit. So far, they have learned how to encode/decode pigpen code, reverse alphabet code, the NATO phonetic alphabet, and coordinate grid code. They also studied alphabet statistics, and how it applies to cryptology. Next week, they will take their final exam and try to catch a fictional criminal by using their newly acquired code-breaking skills! The students made their own spy ID cards with their secret agent names.

Rube Goldberg Marble Run Rube Goldberg Marble Run

Fourth graders began the Rube Goldberg machine unit. After exploring Goldberg's life and work, we studied a variety of Rube Goldberg machines made by various enthusiasts. They also studied Newton's 3 laws of motion as they prepared to make their own marble run designs.

5th Grade 5th Grade

Sports and Games

This week, they learned how to calculate the probability of simple events, and design a game for a class carnival. Students had to present their games and explain the probability of winning the game. We invited some students to try out their carnival games.

Math Telescoping Test Dates

The testing dates for students looking to telescope in math next year have been released. Follow this link for all of the details. Placement will not take effect until August, 2021.

Registration for the June test is closed, but registration for the July exam will open in June.

In order to telescope in math, a student must take a grade level end of course exam and score 90% or higher. For example, a first grader would take an end of course 2nd grade exam. If that child scored 90% or higher on it, then the next year as a 2nd Grader, that student would take 3rd Grade math. If you are wondering if this could be a good fit for your child, reach out to your child's math teacher to discuss this opportunity. If you choose to move forward with testing, then contact the Assessment Department at GCISD Administration Office (817-251-5524) to schedule and pay for testing.
