Greetings SMS Families,

With the frigid temperatures during February Break, I hope our students and families enjoyed the break safely. I look forward to hearing students' and staff members' stories about what they did during our week apart. As is typically the case with a mostly vacant building during the break, SMS was still a hub of activity. Crews continued to work on our facilities cleaning, painting, and repairing them to prepare for the return of students and staff.

Student scheduling for the 2025-2026 school year will soon be upon us. When the time comes, sixth-grade families will receive information about opportunities for accelerated coursework in 7th-grade science and mathematics for students who qualify. We will also share this detailed information with 6th-grade families on the SMS website and via ThrillShare messages.

As a reminder to all students and families, SMS students are responsible for their school-issued Chromebooks and Chromebook chargers. Students should be coming with their Chromebooks and chargers each day, and the devices should be fully charged at the start of the school day. If student devices are left at home or not charged, we will only loan Chromebooks and chargers in extremely limited circumstances, such as for testing. Please reinforce the importance of students bringing their school-issued Chromebooks to school each day fully charged.

Families should receive an email and/or text communication about their student's 25-week progress report by mid-March. The reports will be available in the PowerSchool Parent Portal. If you have questions or concerns about the reports, feel free to contact Student Services at (716) 592-3271.

Sincerely,

Dr. Fisher

ECMEA Solo Fest ECMEA Solo Fest

On Saturday, January 11th, some 5th and 6th grade Band & Orchestra students participated in the ECMEA Solo Festival that was held at Depew Middle/High School. In this festival, students had to prepare scales from memory, perform a solo, and play a sight reading exercise in front of a judge. This audition is for a chance to be a part of one of the performance ensembles that has the opportunity to perform at Kleinhan's Music Hall in March!

GREAT JOB TO ALL STUDENTS! Check out their scores here: https://www.springvillegi.org/o/sms/article/2014504
