Hot Lunch Program - Forms DUE TOMORROW!
Our Blue Heron Class, 8th grade, is happy to announce the return of their hot lunch fundraiser! This year they are offering a two days of hot food. The program allows your child to receive a hot meal delivered by the 8th grade class directly to their classroom for either the rest of the school year or for the first semester. Second semester orders will be placed in January.
This year, two delicious options!
- Wednesday - Burrito or Taco, beans, and rice from El Paraiso
- Thursday - Pizza from Martolli's (a Siskiyou School alum family!)
As our hot lunch program is a fundraiser, we cannot offer refunds for days of student absences. Cancellations for the remainder of the semester can be made at any time if your child no longer is interested in the meal. Both a form and pre-payment for the semester or year must be received in the office for the lunch order to be placed.
Forms are due on Wednesday, September 24, and can be turned in at the table in the front hallway. If you have questions, email amy.bull@siskiyouschool.org. Thank you for supporting the 8th grade trip!

Thank you for joining us for this important event heralding the changing of the seasons. A few reminders:
- Please note that this is a family event and PARENTS are responsible for their children, not the school staff. Please WATCH YOUR CHILDREN.
- When the park is closed after activities, the park gates will be shut and we will not go back to the park.
- Students are expected to adhere to all school rules and expected behaviors. No CELL PHONES please.
- Please dress nicely as we are conducting an assembly for our community. We love to see folks in bright fall colors to celebrate the season!
- Please bring your own plates and utensils for the potluck. We're hopeful for a zero waste event!

Looking for Help with Stilts!
Stilts are such a special part of recess for us at the Siskiyou School! They get used nearly every day! Walking on stilts lets kids stretch their balance, coordination, and courage, perfect timing for Michaelmas.
Our stilts do require a lot of care to sand them and make sure they're safe to use. We're looking for someone that would like to take on their care under the guidance of Ms. Glatte. If you'd be interested in helping out, please email her at margie.glatte@siskiyouschool.org or give the office a call.
Thank you!

The Siskiyou School Composts!
All students, their families, teachers and staff are invited to take advantage of the Ashland Community Compost drop off location at the Siskiyou School! Brought to you for the school year by a donation from a Siskiyou School parent and support from the school administration and faculty. Find the big yellow bucket next to the recycle bins in the school parking lot and help us fill it up each week. See https://ashlandcommunitycomposting.org/ for information on what can be composted and why this small step helps reduce greenhouse gas contamination. No plastic labels, wires, or garbage please. Fully compostable Bio bag liners are fine.
Star Class - Second Grade
Happy Fall Equinox! Yesterday we talked about this special time of year when light and darkness are even and when we begin the path into darkness. Saint Michael is the archangel of this time who encourages us to find our inner light, strength and courage as we move into the winter time soon. The Star Class is very excited to share the story of “Saint George and the Dragon” at Michaelmas this Friday. With the start of school we have been in a “Saints” block. It has been so inspiring to hear about Saints, including Saint George, who have done kind and selfless acts to help humanity. We are also active with math – reviewing all addition families – and we have begun the Village Reading Program Nina Gallwey created in the past years. It is a beautiful phonics program which we will follow through the whole year; and it will support us on the road to literacy. The stars are shining bright and we send heartwarming fall greetings to you from our classroom.

Raven Class - 7th Grade
Almost two weeks ago, I had the joy and privilege of joining the Raven class on their orientation trip to Mt. Lassen National Park. Traditionally, our 6th-grade classes journey to Lassen at the start of the Geology block, but last year, heavy smoke caused us to change course and travel instead to Sunset Bay on the Oregon coast. That shift brought rich gifts of its own, and this year we were able to make our way to Lassen instead. In truth, I believe it was meant to unfold this way. While the class would have been ready last year, the way they are now, in terms of growth, maturity, and sense of self, met Lassen in just the right way.
The trip was filled with countless moments of wonder and deep connection. Many of the students returned home saying it had changed their lives. With fresh eyes and open hearts, they took in the striking beauty of the landscape, the vastness, the wilderness, the quiet expanses hidden just beyond the familiar highway and tree line. Our evenings around the campfire were woven with thoughtful discussions about our hopes for the year and the unique gifts each person brings to the Raven class and to the whole Siskiyou School community. The rains blessed us in the night, leaving crisp mountain air to greet us in the morning as we shared hot chocolate, cider, and tea before beginning the day’s adventures.
One of the highlights was our ascent of the Cinder Cone. Each step pushed us to draw on our strength and will, but with plenty of encouragement calling down from the friends already at the summit, every student made it to the top. Their cheers for one another carried the spirit of what this trip was about: coming together, supporting each other, and finding joy in our shared accomplishments.
This experience reminded me of why we take these journeys in the middle school years. They offer us the chance to shake off the summer months and to form or renew the bonds that allow us to step into the work ahead with heart, head, and hands united.
My deep gratitude goes to Tom Shelstad (www.innerguideexpeditions.com)and Elan Solomon for their guidance and care, and to the Raven class for their free spirits, their beautiful singing, and the love they share with one another. We are truly blessed.

Fall Fair!
My friend Anya (mom of Misha, classmate of Zoya, alumni 2024) and I are organizing first annual Community Fall Fair event at the Artemisia Institute in Ashland. It was originally created by me long time ago to support our children earning their own pocket money by selling their crafts and backed goods. This year is our first joint Fair with Anya's beautiful, healing and resourceful new place in Downtown. It's free to participate so if you have entrepreneurial kids who love to make stuff, please let me know, we would be glad to have you at the fair! And everyone, please come to support those kids, also Ukrainian refugee families, who are cooking amazing foods for sale, just in time for your Sunday lunch!!! Thank you,
