Dear Explorer Families,

The last two weeks have been absolutely amazing! It has been wonderful seeing all of our students and families back on campus, and the energy around the school has been incredible.

I hope everyone has a fantastic, restful weekend ahead. As we look to next week, please remember that we have our very first Monday of the school year.

As a quick reminder, Mondays are late-start days for our district. Here is the schedule for Monday morning:

  • Doors Open: 10:00 AM
  • School Begins: 10:15 AM

Thank you all for a great start to the year. This year is going to be truly fantastic!

Warmly,

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures

Arrival:

Walkers and bike riders:

  • The back gate is open. Please use the back entrance to come to school.

Car Riders

  • Please help us ensure the safety of your child by using the designated car loop. Students must remain in their vehicle until greeted by a staff member.
  • In the morning, 15 minutes prior to and until the start of the school day, there will be staff members meeting and directing students. For your child’s safety, please do not drop students off until staff supervision has arrived.

  • If you arrive after the start of school, please park and walk your child to the office to check in.

Buses

  • Bus Stop Lookup Tool: The most up-to-date information is on the SBLSD Transportation page. Please follow this link to find the latest information on bus routes.
  • Bus passes: We are unable to allow students to ride a different bus when wanting to, for example, go home with a friend or be dropped off at a grandparent's house.

Dismissal:

Walkers and bike riders:

  • The back gate is open. Please use the back gate to leave school. Please do not ride bikes in the front of the school.

Silent Dismissal is an end of day dismissal system. This program will allow the school the ability to dismiss students from inside the classroom, as their parent/guardian arrives for pick up. This greatly reduces the number of students in a designated area, while increasing safety and accountability. It is a secure system and we are very excited to continue using it.

Important points to remember:

  • Please have your pick up tag with you every day. If your child is going home with a different person or car, please make sure that you have notified the office and that the other person picking up has the pick up tag. If you need additional tags please notify the main office.

  • Your student will received a tag that is attached to their backpack. This tag will be used everyday for dismissal to scan students out.

  • If a car comes through the dismissal line or a parent arrives for in-person pick up without the tag, the driver will be obligated to park and wait until dismissal has ended. At the end of dismissal, school personnel will check identification and verify Skyward permissions to manually release the student from the classroom. There will be no exceptions (even if you know your number). Students can not be picked up in the main office.

  • All dismissal changes must be reported to the office by 3:00 pm.

  • Please do not arrive on campus prior to 3:30 pm. Arriving earlier than 3:30 pm creates a safety hazard blocking access to emergency personnel.

  • Please understand this program was purchased with the safety of our children in mind. It is imperative we are all on the same page and adhere to these dismissal procedures.

Pick Up Number

  • All families should have received a pick up number even if you child rides the bus. The pick up number is only used for pick up and not for bus riders. Families that have multiple students will have the same pick up number for all of their children.
  • If you are planning to pick your child up on a regular basis, please place your pick up number in the front window on the passenger side. This number quickly allows our staff to tell which child is being picked up and helps maintain safety. Numbers will be given out at the Back-To-School Night and during the first week of school at the front office.

Having more families carpool, walk, or have their children ride the bus will reduce the number of cars entering campus, which should allow the buses to enter campus sooner, load sooner, and leave sooner. We appreciate your patience and support.

September is Attendance Awareness Month- Good Attendance Matters!

Encouraging regular school attendance is one of the most powerful ways you can prepare your child for success- both in school and in life. When you make school attendance a priority, you help your child get better grades, develop health life habits, avoid dangerous or risky behavior, and have a better chance of graduating from high school.

The number of days missed matters!

Whether excused or unexcused, the number of days your student misses can greatly impact their school success. Families should strive for regular attendance. Regular Attendance means having, on average, less than two absences per month.

Did you know?

  • Starting in kindergarten, too many absences (excused and unexcused) can cause children to fall behind in school.

  • Missing 10 percent (or about 18 days) increases the chance that your student’s math and reading skills will fall behind due to missed instruction.

  • By 6th grade, absenteeism is one of three signs that a student may drop out of high school

  • By 9th grade, regular and high attendance is a better predictor of graduation rates than 8th grade test scores.

  • Absences can be a sign that a student is losing interest in school, struggling with schoolwork, dealing with a bully or facing some other potentially serious difficulty.

What can you do to help?

Set expectations for good attendance. Encouraging regular school attendance is one of the most powerful ways you can prepare your child for success. When you make school attendance a priority, you help your child get better grades, develop healthy life habits, avoid dangerous or risky behavior, and have a better chance of graduating from high school.

  • Set a regular bedtime and morning routine as well as finish homework and packing backpacks the night before. Focus on getting a good night’s sleep.

  • Avoid appointments and travel when school is in session.

  • Keep track of your child’s attendance.

  • Have a back-up plan in place with family members, neighbors, or other parents for getting your child to school in case something comes up.

  • Reach out for support. We are here to help! If you need support and resources to address the barriers to school attendance, please connect with your child’s teacher, counselor, or the front office staff.

Counselor Corner

Hello, and happy September! My name is Jennifer Browder, and I am a part-time School Counselor at Donald Eismann Elementary. Students know me as Mrs. Browder, and you can find me on the DEE campus on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I am excited to work with students, families, and staff to support students’ academic, social-emotional, and career development. My years of experience in business operations and systems management, along with owning a small wellness and health business, led me to pursue a career in counselor education three years ago.

Go Lopes—find your purpose!

My favorite hobbies and weekend activities include exercising, spending time with family, and participating in community outreach. I look forward to an amazing 2026–2027 school year as we work together to meet the needs of our students and families.

Hello DEE families! I'm one of your School Counselors, Angi Sullivan. The kids refer to me as Miss Angi. I'm excited to serve your children with the goals that they feel safe and happy at school, grow up to be successful, and love whatever they decide to do in the future. Education is my passion. I've served for three decades now at elementary, middle, and high school levels in many roles: Classroom Teacher, School Counselor, Parent & Community Involvement Coordinator, Behavior & Family Support Specialist, and Registrar. Elementary School Counselor is by far my favorite!

I am a UW Husky and I enjoy watching sports, reading, walking my dogs, being on the water, and spending time with my two adult daughters (both SSD alumni)!
