SMMS Students Traveled to Charleston for the Youth in Government Seminar SMMS Students Traveled to Charleston for the Youth in Government Seminar

Xavier Adams (HMS), Mahreb Nashrah (HMS), Nathaniel Palmer(SMS), Hadley White (SMS), Tara Doocy (MRMS), Alex Jimenez (MRMS), Christee Coleman (NMS), Jose Arcienega (NMS), Dustin Aulisio (MuMS), Austin's Gray (MuMS), Leighton Hall (SMMS), and Isaac Thompson (SMMS) were selected by their school principals to represent BCS at the Youth in Government Seminars at the WV State Capitol in Charleston from March 10-12.

During the Seminar, the students met Governor Morrisey and heard presentations from Secretary of State Kris Warner and State Treasurer Larry Pack. They had the opportunity hear West Virginia Supreme Court Justices Tim Armstead and Charles Kump speak about the role the justices play in our state government.

Our students watched the House in session and were recognized on the floor during the session. During the YLA banquet dinner, they had the opportunity to discuss the legislative process and important issues affecting young West Virginians with State Senators Patricia Rucker and Tom Willis and House Delegates Michael Hornby, Michael Hite, Lisa White, and Ian Masters.

Students also participated in a mock legislative session in which they wrote, amended, and adopted various bills and a mock trial at the Southern District Court.

They attended a session of the Kanawha County Night Court where they witnessed arraignments of citizens charged with crimes. After the court session the Magistrate answered questions from the students, and the bailiff led them on a tour of the courthouse.

StopIT Pilot Program StopIT Pilot Program

We are proud to announce that our school is piloting a program with STOPit Solutions, a nationally recognized leader in school safety and wellness.

Through this partnership, everyone in our school community has access to the STOPit anonymous reporting app – a powerful tool designed to deter and promptly address instances of bullying, school violence, self-harm, and inappropriate behaviors.

With the STOPit app, users can anonymously submit tips, attach photo or video evidence, and privately message school leaders with the necessary information to help everyone involved.

In addition, when a student or anyone in our school community needs immediate support, the STOPit app provides direct access to Crisis Text Line. Users can anonymously text with counselors (day or night) until they feel safe and calm.

We kindly urge parents/caregivers to download the STOPit app and become familiar with its features. If your child has shared a concern with you or you have witnessed something concerning at the school, please don’t hesitate to report it.

When you submit a report through the STOPit app, it immediately gets routed to someone at the school who can help. By providing us with information in real-time, our school team can quickly provide support to the student(s) involved and prevent the incident from escalating to something more serious.

We encourage everyone in our school community to download the STOPit app. Additionally, the app will be downloaded on all of our school's BCS issued devices.

The STOPit app is available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
