CLASS NEWS CLASS NEWS

Dear PK4 Parents,

What a special week we had exploring our very own names! Our classroom was full of hands-on learning as we discovered the letters, sounds, and qualities that make each child’s name unique:

  • Letter Explorers: We searched for name letters in alphabet soup, made letter discoveries outdoors in nature, and sorted letters by whether they were curvy or straight.

  • Building & Creating: We engineered name towers to compare name lengths, built letters with popsicle sticks, and spelled our names using natural items like sticks and stones.

  • Literacy & Phonetics: We clapped out the syllables in our names and experimented with fun rhyming sounds.

Ask your child to clap the syllables in their name for you at home, or ask them to point out straight and curvy letters around the house!

Hope you all have a fun and safe Labor Day! See you back on Tuesday!

Math Focus for Next Week:

We will discover shapes all around us! Children will identify 2D shapes (like circles, squares, triangles, and rectangles), count their sides and corners, and sort them by attributes. We will also combine and manipulate shapes to build pictures and structures, connecting spatial thinking directly to our everyday play.

ELAR Focus for Next Week:

We are diving into our feelings using the RULER framework from the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence! We will focus on building rich emotion vocabularies by exploring one quadrant of the Mood Meter each day—discovering words to describe high/low energy and pleasant/unpleasant feelings. Through stories, daily check-ins, and reflective discussions, children will practice recognizing, naming, and expressing their emotions in healthy ways.
