Reflections from Pastor Jennifer
Two things are happening at once: Missions focus and the beginning of school. As some of you know, I was in elementary education for over a decade. I came to realize that school is a mission field. No, I was not preaching to or converting 2nd graders (although some of them needed it!), but I began to see my time there as a ministry.
This month, as you are praying for those on mission, pray for our schools as if they were mission fields. Pray for students who are believers to boldly share their faith with their classmates. Pray for protection for students who will receive ridicule or retribution for standing firm in their faith. Pray for students who are not believers to have open ears and hearts to accept the Gospel. Pray for teachers who are tired, frustrated, and overwhelmed to be kind and loving to their students and fellow workers. Pray for positive change to occur at the local, state, and national level of the education system. Pray for doors to be open for the Gideons and others to offer Bibles and church groups to operate faith based classes or after-care programs. Pray for students who are being mistreated, neglected, or abused to be healed physically and emotionally. Pray that school counselors will become aware of such events and be able to help those kids. Pray for bus drivers, cafeteria workers, school nurses, and safety officers to keep students and staff safe. Pray against any staff member, volunteer, or any other person who intends to abuse or harm those most vulnerable. Pray for revival, breakthrough, and divine protection in every school across the nation.

OCC
Send in all types of school supplies this month. The only item not allowed is liquid glue. Also, we need about 15 more shoeboxes to match the number from last year and $150 to have last year's total for the shipping costs. Thank you for all that you give!

We will be enjoying breakfast and Bible study in the fellowship hall on Sunday, August 30th. Sign up to bring a topping for Waffle House style hashbrowns or your choice of contribution to the meal. Bring friends too!
More Than a Beginning
Many believers mistakenly measure their spiritual lives by how many times they've responded to an altar call. They think every failure means they have to start over with God. Every stumble feels like they've lost their salvation, and every emotional church service feels like another opportunity to be "born again."
But Scripture paints a different picture.
The new birth is exactly that—a birth. Just as a child is born only once into a family, you are born once into God's family. That miraculous moment happens when you place your faith in Jesus Christ. From then on, you possess His life within you.
Does that mean you'll never struggle again? Of course not.
Even sincere believers stumble. We make poor choices. We sometimes give in to temptation. Yet our failures don't erase God's work within us. Instead, His Spirit lovingly convicts us and draws us back into fellowship.
Think about the story Jesus told of the prodigal son. The younger son wandered far from home, wasting everything his father had given him. Yet when he finally returned, the father didn't ask him to become a son again. He already was one. What had been broken wasn't his identity—it was his fellowship.
That's the difference many Christians miss.
When we sin, God invites us to repentance, not because we're trying to earn our place in His family, but because He wants restored intimacy with His children.
The enemy loves to whisper, "You've gone too far this time."
The Holy Spirit says, "Come home."
One voice drives you away from God.
The other draws you toward Him.
If you've genuinely placed your trust in Christ, there is a spiritual reality inside you that refuses to be satisfied away from your Father. You may wander for a season, but His life within you keeps calling you back. That inner conviction isn't evidence that God has rejected you. It's evidence that He hasn't let go of you.
Repentance, then, isn't about beginning a new relationship with God every time you fail. It's about returning to the Father whose arms remain open.
Perhaps you've been carrying unnecessary guilt. Maybe you've believed your latest failure disqualified you from God's love. Today, remember this: your standing as God's child rests on Christ's finished work, not your flawless performance.
That truth doesn't make sin acceptable—it makes grace astonishing.
Grace never excuses sin, but it always provides a way back from it.
Today, don't hide from your Father.
Run to Him.
He's been waiting.
Prayer:
Father, thank You that my relationship with You is founded on the finished work of Jesus and not on my ability to perform perfectly. Thank You for giving me new life in Christ. When I stumble, help me to run toward You instead of away from You. Restore my fellowship with You and teach me to live each day in the confidence of Your love and grace. In Jesus' name, Amen.
