Equipotential Mapping Lab

Day 2

EquipotentialMapping LabDay 2

DAY 2 DAY 2

Solid Sphere

7. Wire the SOLID sphere sheet as shown below.

  • SOLID (inner circle) is POSITIVE
  • OUTER circle is ground (zero volts). Both the BLACK lead and the negative terminal of the battery are wired to the outer circle.

8. Use the RED lead and map 3 electric field lines and 3 lines of equal voltage (equipotential) both inside and outside the SOLID sphere.

Explore readings everywhere. Record measurements taken along the red line shown below.

Hollow Sphere

9. Wire the HOLLOW sphere sheet as shown below.

  • HOLLOW (inner circle) is POSITIVE
  • OUTER circle is ground (zero volts). Both the BLACK lead and the negative terminal of the battery are wired to the outer circle.

10. Use the RED lead and map 3 electric field lines and 3 lines of equal voltage (equipotential) both inside and outside the HOLLOW sphere.

Explore readings everywhere. Record measurements taken along the red line shown below.

Parallel Plates

11. Wire the PARALLEL plates as shown below.

  • LEFT plate is POSITIVE
  • RIGHT plate is NEGATIVE

12. Place the COMMON at THREE different positions.

  • on the right plate (negative plate)
  • centerline (midway between the plates)
  • on the left plate (positive plate)

13. Use the RED lead and map 3 electric field lines and 3 lines of equal voltage (equipotential) both outside and between the parallel plates.

Explore readings everywhere. Record measurements taken along the red line shown below.
