Notes and Upcoming Due Dates

April 22-25: Map Testing

Social Studies: Mr. Cahn

This week we started off wrapping up West Africa Culture projects. The students really created a spectacular array of products this year.

The final assignment in our study of Africa required students to choose a nation of modern Africa to do some light research on and create a profile sheet for. The object of this was to inform them a bit about one of the many diverse nations of the African continent and build a little more geographic awareness before the end of the year.

On Wednesday, we started our study of the feudal period in Japan. One final time, we worked on a geography assignment together. Students wrapped up the week getting into many of the unique features of Japanese culture that date back to this period, such as Samurai and Sumo.

Next week we’ll wrap up our study of Japan with Haiku and Origami.

It’s been such a fun year of learning with this group! I will miss them tremendously.

The African Art projects turned out so well this year! I’m so proud of the students.

ELA: Mr. Sbisa

In ELA, we have finished our short poetry unit about that focused on how writers conveyed courage. Students wrote original poetry pieces employing the literary devices we studied in the unit. I am always deeply impressed by the way our students express themselves in their writing, and strongly encourage you to ask your student to share their piece with you!

Students are finishing the year in book clubs centered on contemporary literature that features a teen-aged protagonist experiencing conflict because of a social group they belong to. We've begun making connections between each of the protagonists' experiences, and will shift to analysing how these characters reacted to/handle these conflicts.

I'm truly thankful for the role I got to play in your child's education this year!

Science: Mrs. Creath

We have wrapped up our most recent unit: Electricity & Magnetism and we are onto our last unit: Waves!

This unit will be relatively short. I already have the summative test planned for April 28th.

After that, the students will be designing and building cardboard arcade games!

Mrs. Hobold: Math 8 and Algebra

I am an extremely lucky person. I was able to complete my teaching career with a great set of students! Everyday, they have amazed me with their mathematical curiosity and genuine search for knowledge. It was truly my pleasure to be their teacher this year!

Thanks again for a great year!

p.s. Here is a list of resources that have been curated for summer math practice. It is grouped by the grade a student will be entering.
