Do you have a child at home who will be five years old on or before September 1, 2024? Do you know someone who does, perhaps a friend or a neighbor? If so, Gibraltar School District has a spot waiting just for them in our kindergarten classrooms next year! Gibraltar School District offers both a traditional Kindergarten program as well as a Young Fives Kindergarten program. Both of these programs have a strong focus on the math and literacy skills needed for a solid foundation through the course of the formative elementary years. Registration is open now! Once you register, please join us for an informational night, for parents and prospective students, on Tuesday, April 16 at 6:00 at Parsons. Visit our website for more information!

We LOVE our teachers! Don't forget to shout out a staff member!

Please send some positive compliments to our teachers for the new year! Our teachers and staff are working hard! If you have a kind word of gratitude or kindness, please shout it out! Click on the link here. These shout outs are shared each week with staff.

Solar Eclipse Solar Eclipse

A total solar eclipse is crossing North America on April 8th, and we will be able to see about 99% totality from the Gibraltar School District! After this event, we won't have another total solar eclipse visible from the U.S. until 2044! We are thrilled to announce that the Gibraltar School District is providing eclipse viewing glasses to our students and staff for the upcoming total solar eclipse! A form was sent home this week if you want to opt your child out of this experience.

Mrs. Linge has been teaching all about the Solar Eclipse this week in STEM. Additionally, the fourth grade classes were invited to attend a special eclipse program at Lake Erie Metropark. On Monday, we will have the students pack up around 3:00. We will head outside and line up on the back field by class. After watching the eclipse, we will reenter the building and dismiss as normal.

Here is a Detroit Free Press Article about the eclipse.

Run Club is Back! Run Club is Back!

Run Club will start back up on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 and will last for 7 weeks. However, after that Tuesday, Run Club will take place on Wednesdays for the rest of the time. We don't have school on Wednesday, April 17th, so we moved that week's session to Tuesday.

We invite students in grades 2nd through 5th to run/walk every Wednesday morning before school. Each Run Club morning is weather dependent, of course. If it is raining, or the weather is unsafe for runners to participate, that day's Run Club will be cancelled. Proper cold weather attire is recommended on days it is chilly. The course is the track located behind our school. Start time is 8:00 AM sharp. We will be on the route until the school doors open. Students will track their mileage each day they participate.

Our Club needs many volunteers along the track. We appreciate each child's family member volunteering for AT LEAST ONE Run Club morning. You will stand along the track and monitor for safety.

If your child was registered for Run Club in the fall, you DO NOT need to reregister him/her.

Please fill out this form to register your child. The final date to register is Friday, April 12th. Thank you--we look forward to a successful spring season!

School Safety

All doors are locked during the school day. If you come to school, you will be buzzed into the foyer area and office and then asked to show identification before your child is released. All visitors/volunteers in the building must report and sign in at the office. Visitors must wear a badge in the school building. All volunteers in the classroom and for field trips must have a background check on file each year. Just a reminder that if you have a felony conviction you may not volunteer in the classroom or on field trips.

Teacher of the Month

Jamie Churches', State Representative HD 27, office has a new ‘Teacher of the Month’ nomination form available on their website. As always, they wish to highlight the phenomenal educators of our district and showcase their incredible efforts in the classroom, with our students, and within the school community. I have attached the link to this email for your convenience. As they receive nominations, her team will reach out accordingly to schedule a day/time to present the award to a teacher per school month. Last year, Brittany Gurney received this award. We have so many awesome educators!
