PTSA Updates
This week:
đ Special Announcement đ
đ WHAT. Fitness Fun Day (FFD) is an unusual fundraiser that takes place during PE or health class for every kid in school on November 6, 2026.
đ WHY. You arenât buying miles walked or jumping jacks done. The kids exercise and earn points toward prizes, but you, Dear Donor, are sponsoring 45 minutes of middle schooler time FREE of eye-rolling, complaining, and groaning. They have a great time, build community, and support the PTSA programs that make school better. We cannot guarantee the absence of eye-rolling during the other 1,395 minutes of the day.
The money supports teacher appreciation, teacher mini-grants, student programs, field trip subsidies, and more.
đš ALERT: THE STUDENTS HAVE SURPASSED THEIR PARENTS As youâll recall, every kid gets a T-shirt for the dayâand these are treasured because theyâre designed by Sligo kids. This yearâs submissions were the best (and most numerous!) weâve had in years. Parents, I beg to inform you that your kids can draw a horse.
Can you draw a horse?
Here are our first-, second-, and third-place artworks:
đ HOW. Hereâs what to do:
1. Register your student.
2. Send family and friends THIS DONATION LINK. Donors pick your studentâs name from the dropdown; your student is done.
đ° Right now, yâall. Last I heard, about 35 kids were registered. That means the delicious cake from Nothing Bundt Cakes going to the advisory with the most registered students is pretty easy pickings.
đ Get excited. Get registered. Give.
Now back to our regularly scheduled newsletter. Donât sleep on the dine-outs this week!
đ± Happening Now đ±
đȘ A little appreciation, served warm. On Friday, October 16, Sligo teachers were treated to breakfast and warm Insomnia Cookies. Thank you to everyone who helped make it happen. This is one of the things your PTSA support makes possible.
đ” Thank you, concert crew! Thank you to everyone who helped set up, sell concessions and spirit wear, and clean up at Thursdayâs fall concertâand to everyone who stopped by the PTSA tables.
âš Support the Work âš
đïž Sunday: Fenwick Beer and Wine gives back. On Sunday, October 25, from noonâ7:00 p.m., Fenwick Beer and Wine at 1327 Fenwick Lane will donate 10% of every purchase to the PTSA. No code is needed, and you donât have to mention Sligoâbut please thank the owner for supporting our community!
Halloween
Students are welcome to wear costumes to school on Friday, October 30! Please ensure all costumes are school-appropriate, do not depict violence, and do not cause a distraction to the learning environment. For safety reasons, masks are not permitted.
Chromebook Request
Are you ready for potential virtual learning due to school closures?
Students, parents, and MCPS staff can use this form to request a home use Chromebook for MCPS students who do not have access to a personal or home device. When a request for a device is fulfilled, it will be pre-assigned in the inventory system, and the device will be delivered to the school for distribution to the student. The home use device is to be kept at home. Requesting the device implies consent of use in accordance with MCPS policy (IGT-RA) and acknowledgement that the Chromebook, software, and issued peripherals are owned by MCPS.

Safety Reminders
Each morning and afternoon, many buses, cars, bicyclists, and pedestrians will be arriving at and departing from our campus. It is essential that everyone moves slowly, remains alert, and makes safety a priority during arrival and dismissal.
As outlined in the summer letter, the car drop-off area is located on the side of the building. Cars should not enter the bus loop directly in front of the school during arrival or dismissal, and students should not be dropped off on Dennis Avenue. All pedestrians should use the designated crosswalk.
