Catholic Education Week: May 9th-15th

Peace and blessings to you all!

As we enter the month of May, we are reminded that this is the Month of Mary, a special time in our Catholic tradition dedicated to honouring the Blessed Virgin Mary. Mary is a model of faith, hope, and love, and she reminds us to trust in God’s plan, even when the path ahead is uncertain. During this month, we are encouraged to draw closer to her through prayer, especially by praying the Rosary. The Rosary offers us a meaningful way to reflect on the life of Jesus and the promises of God. Please see the wonderful video below on How to Pray the Rosary for guidance.

In this spirit, we reflect on the words from John 14:2-3: “In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also." This passage reminds us of the hope we carry as people of faith, that we are always held in God’s love, and that we are never alone on our journey.

This week also invites us to reflect on important social awareness initiatives. On Tuesday, we recognize Red Dress Day, which honours Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people. It is a time for learning, reflection, and commitment to justice and reconciliation. On Wednesday, we participate in Hats On for Mental Health Day, reminding us of the importance of caring for our mental well-being and supporting one another with compassion and understanding.

We would also like to extend a heartfelt congratulations to Kylee for representing our school so well at the Badminton Provincials. We are very proud of your dedication and sportsmanship!

We were thrilled with the amazing turnout at our recent Open House. It was wonderful to welcome so many families into our school, share in the learning taking place, and celebrate the strong sense of community that makes our school so special. Thank you to our Leadership Class and Ms. Stuart on taking the lead for this fantastic event and thank you to all our staff and fantastic student volunteers. Thank you for joining us!

It has also been wonderful to see the energy and enthusiasm around our recent school events. The BBQ Dads vs. Sports Moms theme day was a great success, and it was fantastic to see our school come together in such a fun and spirited way. We look forward to continued participation in our upcoming theme days! this Friday is Adam Sandler Day, and we are also excited for Trivia Week! These moments help build a strong sense of belonging and joy within our school.

Thank you for your continued support of our school community. May this month of Mary be filled with peace, reflection, and blessings for all.

With gratitude,
The STMY Administration Team

Saint’s Trivia Week- How it works:

Each day during announcements, we will give a series of audio trivia clues corresponding to a certain theme on that day.
Your first period teachers will receive a google form where students collectively as a class try and figure out the answers and submit them on the google form.
For every correct answer you get = a point.
Collect as many points as possible throughout the week
The class that has collected the most points by Friday wins a special prize…stay tuned!
If there is a tie breaker, one final audio question will play over the intercom for the tied classes only. The class that submits the correct answer the fastest will be Class Trivia Champs!

Congratulations Hunter Klassen!

It may have been cold outside, but our School Easter Mass was warm and joyful inside. Father Chad shared about finding our purpose amidst all the distractions online and about St. Carlo Acutis, a teenage saint known for his devotion to the Eucharist and his positive use of digital media to promote Catholic devotion.

Congratulations to Kylee Paquette, who represented St. Mary's at Badminton Provincials in Red Deer this past weekend. Playing in the junior girls' singles category, Kylee demonstrated exceptional resilience and determination, competing through illness with commendable effort.

She was narrowly defeated in the B-side quarterfinals, bringing her tournament run to a close. Throughout the competition, Kylee gained valuable experience competing against Alberta’s top badminton athletes.

Congratulations, Kylee, on an outstanding season.

Students from our Leadership class had the amazing opportunity to go to the Alberta Schools Leadership Conference this weekend! An amazing time was and they are bursting with excitement for all that learned and want to share with our school. Thanks for taking and leading them Ms. Stuart!
