8/6/2021: Back to School Excitement!

Hello Lutherville families!

This week, it was such a joy to meet some of our incoming Kindergartners. Great gratitude to our Kindergarten Team for offering this opportunity to our youngest students.

Our summer programs concluded this week. Our staff did an amazing job planning and execute a meaningful summer program for our students. Commendations to Mrs. Hart and her Team for a job well done.

Back to school plans are taking shape! We are finalizing communication to come to you all later this month. Here's what you can expect:

Mid-August: A message will be shared when student schedules are visible online and directions to access will be provided.

August 13th: LL Welcome Back Letter mailed to families; PDF sent electronically

August 16th: Transportation information for general education students coming this week

August 23rd: Transportation information for special education students coming this week

Positions Available - Adult Assistant

Lutherville Lab is looking to add adult assistants to our dedicated, dynamic staff. Adult Assistants work with individual students who need adult support in order to reach their educational goals. It is rewarding work to help children learn and reach their potential.

First Grade Orientation

New this year to BCPS will be First Grade Orientation on Friday, August 27th. First grade students will have the opportunity to attend for an abbreviated day to meet their classmates and teachers, get a feel for the building, and practice routines for the upcoming year. Mrs. Myers and Mrs. Navarro have a great day planned for our students. A snapshot schedule is below and a formal letter is attached:

9:05 –9:20 Arrival

9:20 –9:40 Announcements & Morning Meeting

9:40 –10:00 Team Building Activity

10:00 –10:45 Special Area Rotation

10:45 –11:30 Craft & Community Builder

11:30 –12:00 Lunch

12:00 –12:30 Recess

12:30 –1:00 Read Aloud, Pack-up

1:05 –Dismissal

Transportation will be provided. Additional information with transportation details, locations, and directions are forthcoming in the Welcome Letter.

Kindergarten Gradual Entry

To support the transition of our youngest learners into the school building, we practice "Gradual Entry" for Kindergarten students. This year's schedule is:

Monday August 30th: Parents will attend with their child for one hour sessions scheduled with their teacher

Tuesday August 31st: Students will attend for a half-day, arriving via their normal transportation, pickup at 1:05pm from carloop.

Wednesday September 1st: First full day

School Supply Lists

As a reminder, school supply lists for the 2021-22 school year have been posted to the school website.

If purchasing these items presents a financial hardship, please reach out to us at school. We may be able to help. Any information shared will remain confidential. If you can donate additional items on the list, please leave them with your child’s homeroom teacher.

Popsicles and Playground - KG and 1st Families

The Lutherville Lab PTA is generously sponsoring a Popsicles and Playground meetup event on Monday August 11th. We hope your family will be able to join us. We're hoping Kindergarten families can come at 5:45 and 1st grade families at 6:30. Please see the attached flyer!

Update: We plan to offer small group school tours for families that have not been able to tour the school yet. Please bring a mask, which will be required inside the school.

Event Information

Sneak-A-Peak at Your Seat

Please join us to meet your child's teacher and Sneak-a-Peak at Your Seat. You'll be able to see your student's classroom, meet the teacher, and drop-off any supplies. Please use the outside entrance to your child's classroom in order to avoid gathering and to support social-distancing (a map is forthcoming and staff will be on-hand to direct).

Families are welcome to attend whenever they can, but to help mitigate crowding, we hope your schedules will allow you to attend within these windows:

Last names A-M: 5:00-5:45

Last names N-Z: 5:45-6:30

Kona Ice will be available! :)

Back to School Night

Please mark your calendars for Back to School Night. Similar to Sneak-A-Peak, some adjustments will be made to support social distancing including time windows staggered by last name and entry through outside classroom doors. We will not gather together for a large presentation; that content will be displayed in your child's homeroom classroom. More information to come as we get closer to the event!
