Learning Support in the Classroom ~ Advice Column

Dear Accommodation Abby,

I am a fourth grade teacher with a student who gets very distracted during class time. He tends to have the most difficulty during independent writing time when the students are expected to track where they are in the multi-step process of creating a writing piece. We are using a Writer’s Workshop Model, so this struggle presents a hardship for me, as I cannot sit with him during the entire writing period to keep him on-track. What can I do to make the step-by-step writing process more explicit for him?
