The Sylvan Sunday Swoop
Week 23
Week 20: Finishing Well & Starting Strong Together!
Greetings Sylvan Blue Jay Families!
As we move into Week 23, we want to thank you for your patience and flexibility during the recent snow days and delays. We know that changes in schedules can disrupt routines for our students and families, and we appreciate your continued partnership.
This week, our focus is on getting students back into strong learning habits and rebuilding the momentum that helps them grow. Even with the interruptions, our goal remains the same: to support every student in taking ownership of their learning, engaging fully in the classroom, and giving their best effort each day.
At school, teachers are re-establishing expectations, reinforcing routines, and providing the support students need to get back on track. At home, small conversations about effort, responsibility, and focus make a big difference—especially after time away from school.
Quarter 3 Reminders:
- To Pre-Order your Yearbook, click this link:
https://strawbridge.fotomerchanthv.com/search/YB32981 - Students cannot be signed out after 2:00pm to ensure a safe dismissal.
- Please be mindful of the Sylvan Parent Communication Flow Chart on page 5 on the Student Handbook. Teachers and Staff cannot address concerns if they do not know about them first.
💕This year we are celebrating KINDNESS week! We would love for your support at home promoting acts of kindness. A board is coming home in weekly folders. As you catch kindness please mark the tic tac toe board. Once the board is full please send it back for student recognition. Thank you for partnering with us to promote kindness!
🚀Together, we are helping our Blue Jays continue to Build Greatness, even when the weather tries to slow us down. Thank you for your ongoing support, your encouragement of your child, and your partnership with our staff. We are looking forward to a strong and productive week ahead.

February: Kindness
What is Kindness?
Kindness is the ability and willingness to express care and compassion for others. Kindness is a choice to use our time, talent, and resources to better the lives of others and the world through genuine acts of love, compassion, generosity, and service.
Why focus on Kindness?
- Kindness boosts positive emotions. Acts of kindness create neural pathways that enhance feelings of well-being and the natural flow of feel-good endorphins and neurotransmitters.
- Kindness is self-replicating. When we perform an act of kindness, it is likely to encourage others to act in a similar way.
- Kindness reduces stress and anxiety. Kindness promotes positive relationships with other people. Anything that helps you to build bonds with other people helps decrease anxiety.
Kindness in Action:
- Celebrate small things. Start each day with Good Things as a class. Publicly and privately affirm kind and thoughtful actions and attitudes.
- Create opportunities for students to affirm each other regularly. Once a week, dedicate time for students to write notes of affirmation to classmates and school staff members.
- Model Kindness. Be mindful of body language, tone, and mindset. Kindness is learned by example!

- School ends at 2:35 p.m.
- If you are signing your students out early (before 2:00 p.m.), you must go inside the front office and check them out. If you arrive early, but after 2:00 p.m., to sign your child out, you must wait until the dismissal announcements are made at 2:00 p.m. We appreciate your cooperation with this matter!
- If you need to change your child's afternoon transportation, please complete the Google Form linked here by 1:00 pm. Teachers cannot check and respond to messages and emails throughout the day when they are teaching. Please do not expect an immediate response from your child's teacher during instructional hours. Office hours for teachers begin after 3:00 p.m.
- Families may come to eat lunch with your students. Please reach out to your child's teacher 24 hours in advance to let them know you are coming so they can plan for seating. Remember: NO OUTSIDE FOOD OR DRINK MAY BE BROUGHT IN (in advertised packaging). Upon arrival, please sign in at the front office and get a visitor's tag.
- During the afternoon dismissal, all parents/guardians picking up in the car rider line, must have their student's assigned yellow number card visible on the dash or in the window. If you do not have a car rider tag, you will need to park in the overflow lot across the street and come in with your ID to get your student. This is a safety precaution to ensure that ALL students are going home with someone who has permission to pick them up. No passing is allowed in the car rider line. The safety of our Blue Jays is a priority.
- Please note: Traffic turning left into the car rider line cannot block the oncoming traffic on Sylvan Rd. per the Highway Patrol. Please utilize the overflow parking circle to turn around so that you can turn right into the car rider line drop-off.
