LB65 Community Bulletin
November 3rd, 2023
Dear Lake Bluff Community:
I am so excited to share with you that next week, we will be launching our Route 65 Podcast! As I shared last month in our community bulletin, it’s been a goal of mine to lift the voices of others in our learning community!
Each week, I’ll be sharing an episode with a member of our community - a staff member, parent, board member, and even students make it on the podcast!
The episodes are intended to be short enough to listen to as you commute through Lake Bluff. All the topics are about our Route 65 Strategic Plan and our Portraits.
All of my guests so far have been a delight. I have learned so much from our conversations together, and I hope you do, too. Stay tuned, we’ll be sending out a link to the podcast next week when it’s live!
Every Student, Every Day,
Dr. Lisa Leali
Superintendent

UPDATE: Last Day of School is Wednesday, June 5, 2024
Now that we have had two weather related school closures, we wanted to remind you that our last day of school will now be Wednesday, June 5th. That day will be an early dismissal day.
The date of 8th grade graduation has not changed and will take place on Tuesday, June 4th at 7pm. As a result, the last day for 8th graders will be June 4th.
Also, please be aware that if any additional school closures are required, those days will be eLearning days and students will be expected to login to their Chromebooks to receive instructions from their teachers and access their class materials/assignments. Those eLearning days count as a day of school so we will not be extending the school year beyond June 5th.
Suicide Prevention Program - Material Review - February 27
We are asking staff, parents, and community members to assist in reviewing a suicide prevention tool we are considering for implementation in grades 6-8. This program, through Elyssa’s Mission, is called Signs of Suicide.
We will be holding in-person sessions to review materials and to gather feedback. Sessions will be held on Tuesday, February 27 from 9-10am OR 4-5pm at the Lake Bluff District Office.
Please RSVP if you plan to attend a material review session using this link:

Career Day at Lake Bluff Middle School!
Last week our LBMS students had a wonderful opportunity to learn from different leaders from various industries through Career Day. It’s a great way that adults in our community give back to help our students dream big about their future! Thank you to all who participated, the students were engaged, asked thoughtful questions and are still talking about all they heard!
Portrait of an Adult: What is it and why does it matter?
When we developed our Portrait of a Learner alongside Districts 67 and 115, we agreed on what characteristics and skills we wanted our children to embody. Those characteristics are: Critical Thinking, Communication, Adaptability, Empathy, Confidence and Citizenship. All great qualities and skills and all very useful.
Then, we took it one step further. Because if we have expectations for our children from Kindergarten through Graduation, we should have agreed upon expectations for the adults, too. And that’s where the Portrait of an Adult was created.
Those attributes are:
It’s ambitious, there is no doubt about it. But as an adult in the Lake Bluff 65 learning community, we’re asking for you to take time to reflect on these attributes. How do you see them in yourself, in the others around you and in your child’s teacher, coaches, and other supportive adults in their life? How do you want to grow in these areas and how do you imagine your growth will impact the child(ren) in your life?
