Principal's Letter Principal's Letter

Dear Hawk Families,

After an incredible Homecoming week, the pride and positive energy across Eastern High School is palpable! I want to extend a massive thank you to our amazing students, teachers, and staff members who poured so much energy into making Homecoming such a memorable success – from the spirit days and Pep Assembly to the Powderpuff game and Saturday’s dance. That momentum carried right into another stellar week on campus, marked by our National Honor Society induction, a fantastic Marching Band Showcase, and successful postseason athletic performances. As we gear up for PSAT testing, Fall Break, and Parent-Teacher Conferences, please read on for this week’s celebrations, safety updates, and key dates

Gratitude and Celebrations! Gratitude and Celebrations!

  • Congratulations to our 71 students who officially became members of the National Honor Society on Thursday night! Thank you to Mrs. Doreen Barnes and our executive board members: Caroline Dempsey (President), Hansika Ponnaluri and Sarah Krueger (Vice-Presidents), Tejas Karumudi (Secretary), Harnoor Bath (Community Engagement Liaison), Steve Zawacki (Communications), James Zawacki (Human Resources), and Sreekar Vudathu (Technology) for planning a wonderful induction event! Thank you also to our exceptional guest speakers, Mr. Ben Kirby (FHPS Superintendent) and Bridget Clark Whitney (President & Founding CEO of Kids’ Food Basket) for delivering powerful and inspiring speeches!

  • Congratulations to Mr. Kevin Langejans and the EHS Marching Band for a spectacular performance at the FHPS Band Showcase on Monday night. The weather was perfect and the bands sounded amazing! All three high schools (Northern, Central and Eastern) put on an incredible show! Special shout-out to Noah George for his trumpet solo and drum majors Sophia Wolter and Isabel Javery for their steady and strong leadership of the Hawk Marching Band!

  • Congratulations to Steve Zawacki and Pearline Talukder on being named the Homecoming King and Queen at our Friday night homecoming game!

  • Jake Hager and Grace Majeske were selected as the September Pro of the Month at the Kent Career Tech Center. They were selected by their program instructors based on the characteristics of Going Pro (Professional, Respectful, and Ownership). Congratulations!

Congratulations to Joey Cavanaugh on finishing as regional champion and Elliott Buck (#1 Singles), Cole Konwinski (#2 Singles), Henry Overbeek & Aiden Schmidt (#1 Doubles), Brenden Kozal & Jackson Smith (#2 Doubles), Sreekar Vudathu & Aryan Methri (#3 Doubles), and Henry Frey & Alex Juhle (#4 Doubles) on reaching the regional championship final and qualifying for state. Policies and Procedures Policies and Procedures

Standard Response Protocol: This week we continued our state-mandated safety drills. In conjunction with these ongoing safety drills, we are highlighting our second response to an emergency situation according to our Standard Response Protocol.

SECURE Get inside. Lock outside doors.

Secure: Students are trained to return to the inside of their school building and will continue with “school as usual.” Under a Secure, staff members are increasing situational awareness and are accounting for all students and adults in the building. An example of when a Secure may be given is if there is something happening outside the school, like a robbery at a nearby store and the suspect fled on foot, or if there is a dispute happening in a neighboring residential community, subdivision, or apartment complex. Under a Secure, every effort is made to conduct classes as normal. Parents may be asked to stay outside during a Secure event. Should a parent need to pick up their child for an appointment while the school is in a Secure response, the situation will be assessed to determine if it is safe to release the child.

For more details about our Standard Response Protocol and our other actions, please visit our website. There, you'll find an overview of these actions along with a link to a flyer with information for parents. Thanks for partnering with us to keep our schools safe.
