At home athletic events, we kindly ask parents to supervise their children. Please ensure they stay away from restricted areas, such as the jump pits or pole vault area, and note that there is no supervision on the BES playground or around the stadium, including the north hill and south end near the soccer field. Recently, there were injuries and behavior issues at a football game. For safety, we recommend that children stay with their families and sit in the bleachers to enjoy the games.

Lastly, today begins National Hispanic Heritage Month. President Reagan expanded this celebration from a week to a month in 1988. We celebrate to recognize the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the history, culture, and achievements of the United States. It is held from September 15-October 15 due to many Central American countries celebrating their independence days during this timeframe.

Have a great week!

Cindy Apple, Principal

Remembering 9/11: Broadmoor's Patriot Project Remembering 9/11: Broadmoor's Patriot Project

This week we remembered the events of September 11, 2001. The students participated in a Patriot Project as a way to live our mindsets of Live to Give and Attitude of Gratitude! Gene Kern, grandfather of our 4th grade student, Charlie, will be on an Honor Flight next week. The students learned about Mr. Kern's service in the US Army and Air Force during the Vietnam War. They also learned about the war memorials in Washington, D.C. and about Honor Flight. Since we can't all be at the airport to give Mr. Kern a Broadmoor welcome, we are sending letters, cards, and signs of gratitude with the Kern Family to share with him. Thank you, Mr. Kern for your service. We salute you!

Mindset Minute

This week we begin discussing the mindset, EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE. This mindset gets us dreaming big, thinking about what we hope to accomplish, what we want to learn or get better at and what we want to become. Being able to envision these things in our future enables us to think about how we get there and then make choices each day that point us in the direction of our dreams. We will have conversations about dreaming big, embracing creativity, thinking positive and learning to act & adjust.

Pedestrian Crosswalk at 68 Highway and Aquatic Drive Pedestrian Crosswalk at 68 Highway and Aquatic Drive

As you have probably seen, there is a new pedestrian crosswalk and beacon being installed at 68 Highway and Aquatic Drive. It will be a similar beacon and crosswalk that is in place on South Metcalf, by Ron Weers Park. There have been some installation delays so it will not be installed when school begins. We will have a school staff member out at the crosswalk and the city is working on some temporary signage. The hope is to have the crosswalk fully functional by the end of August.

We urge extreme caution at this crosswalk until it is fully functional.

Attendance and School Calendars Attendance and School Calendars

Please take note of our school calendars when planning your family's vacations.

Attendance is a focus at BES and we want your children at school! It can be very difficult for students to get caught up sometimes when they miss for extended periods of time. For example, when a student misses a week of school, that is up to 450 minutes of math instruction they are missing!

If your family does have a trip planned, we do not provide lessons or materials ahead of those trips. Teachers will work with you to schedule times when your student can be given that instruction and guided work time to ensure mastery of skills. This may have to happen before or after school, but we will also try to work during the school day as well.

GREAT school habits now help prepare students for future success!

Great Attendance for August!!

Congratulations to the Classroom Winners!
