LISD School Newsletter
From Dr. Martin....
Dear LISD Families,
Thanks to everyone who helped us celebrate LISD's 85th anniversary! We kicked it off with a fall sports pep rally on Friday, followed by student-led school tours, and then our amazing kitchen crew served a delicious pizza lunch to about 60 visitors! Folks came out that afternoon to cheer for our soccer and volleyball varsity teams and then gathered at the Islander to tell funny stories about naughty things they did at school that their principal didn't know about! On Saturday, LIEF hosted an awesome lawn party with the help of ASB clubs and the junior class, and we wrapped up the weekend celebration at an all-ages dance at Woodmen Hall with board member and DJ Andrew Nichols playing everybody's favorite music.
The whole weekend was a cup-filling experience, and the energy brought by all is one of the many reasons I am so proud to be part of our school district's story. Go Lobos!
Have a fabulous week :-)
Martha

Your help is appreciated
When your child is home sick, it is helpful if you let us know what their symptoms are so that the health room can monitor what viruses are circulating the school. Please use the email address attendance@lopezislandschool.org.
If you make a change to your child's afternoon transportation, such as having them picked up instead of taking the bus, it is VERY IMPORTANT to let the Elementary Office know before 2:45 PM. There is a lot of end of day communication that happens with the bus drivers and teachers and the office anbd in order to ensure that goes smoothly, its critical to get any changes ahead of time. Last minute changes have a much greater change of getting lost or miscommunicated. Thank you!
Financial Aid Seminar
Wednesday, October 14, 6 pm, Room 1
On October 14 there will be a Financial Aid 101 seminar in room 1 in the secondary building at 6 PM. This presentation will be done by Futures NW, a non-profit from Bellingham that specializes in supporting students applying for financial aid. This presentation will be most suitable for 12th graders and their families but younger students and families are invited to attend if they want to get a headstart on learning more about financial aid. A Spanish translator will be available. Reach out to Robb Ellis for any questions.
Student Forms - Please Submit
We ask that EVERY family fill out the school lunch forms every year - even if you don't think your family qualifies for free or reduced lunch. The information is very helpful in getting other funding as well. All information is strictly confidential.
Free Child Development Screening
For 0 - 5 years old
Free screening for all Lopez Island children. The screening is intended to be a first step towards getting your child the help they need to thrive in school. It is also meant to help parents identify their child's strengths and opportunities for growth, and to offer approaches to use at home.
