News From the Fifth Grade

Science with Mr. Seasly: Students will be finishing up a unit on force and motion this week. They will have learned what happens during collisions, why objects fall faster than others, and what it takes to move objects with different masses (e.g. force). The next unit will consist of Earth and space. Students will learn Earth's characteristics, along with the moon and the other planets within our solar system. 🪐

Social Studies with Mr. Seasly: Students have learned about what makes particular groups of people unique (e.g. Culture) and why people relocate or move throughout the world. They have also learned why attending college and/or Ehove will benefit them when they enter the workforce. Next, they will learn about the three main types of government and what makes each type unique or special.

ELA with Miss Clifford: In reading, we read a class novel called "Because of Mr. Terupt" and students loved it! Students were able to relate to characters in the book and track character development, along with various text structures. It also gave students a laugh from time to time. We are currently finishing up informational texts and moving to persuasive texts and writing. 📚

Math with Mrs. Smith: 5th graders have been busy learning ways to get a common denominator so they can add or subtract fractions. Sometimes they can change fractions to money. Sometimes they can change fractions to to minutes. Sometimes they can just change one fraction. They have used the butterfly method, too. 5th graders don't have to simplify fractions, so any equivalent fractions will do. They have been multiplying a fraction by a whole number, too. They are beginning to understand that the fraction bar is actually a division symbol. 📏
