Welcome back, families!

We’re excited to begin a new school year together and celebrate the Year of the Horse—a year that symbolizes energy, perseverance, and moving forward with confidence. As we open our doors, we look forward to a year filled with learning, growth, and strong partnerships between home and school. Thank you for being part of our community—we can’t wait to see what this year brings as we run toward success together. 🐎✨

Here are the three things that you need to know for the week.

1. Please purchase your yearbook while they are $20. Prices will raise on January 7th.
2. We invite all families to join Davis Behavioral Health for their Strengthening Families class that will be held here at Stewart.
3. Make sure that you have January 29 on your calendar for Chinese New Year. ALL Families and Community Members are invited.

Stewart will be hosting an evening program for families through Davis Behavioral Health starting Monday, January 26th at 6:00 pm and ending on March 16th.

Strengthening Families Program is a 7-week program for families who have youth 10 - 14 years old. They meet once a week for 2.5 hours and we provide free dinner and childcare. How the curriculum is structured allows for parents and youth to meet separately for the first hour and then come together for the second hour to do an activity. Each week is a different topic and ranges from establishing rules and following through with consequences to encouraging family meetings and communication, as well as how to navigate peer pressure.

PARENTS WILL LEARN TO

• Communicate well

• Understand teens

• Connect as a family

• Set boundaries

• Create family rules

• Handle family conflict

• Handle peer pressure

YOUTH WILL LEARN TO

• Understand parent perspective

• Refuse peer pressure

• Listen and play

• Cope during stressful situations

We need volunteers to help set up the Chinese Lanterns each student will make for our annual Chinese New Year celebration. If you are able to come to the school that Thursday, January 29th when school starts to help string and hang up the lanterns, please reach out to Leslie Chan (801-927-7970)

Mrs. Hooper has started a book club to discuss the Book Battle Books. You don't need to participate in Book Battles to join the book club. Come eat snacks and discuss great books with other 5th and 6th graders.

Each month students have a chance to earn 4 brag tags. One for the monthly mission, monthly reading, math and monthly attendance.

Mission: Set one personal goal and one learning goal—and track your progress.

Bonus Challenge: Share a goal and cheer on a friend who's working toward theirs.
