Think Tank

What's happening in October?

Think TankWhat's happening inOctober?

Kindies

Kindies will finish working with iPads and will then talk about what it means to be a Scientist. They will also practice compromise and collaboration as they create and build in centers. Students will be introduced to a new station with Play doh as well as a Snap Cube station that allows them to strengthen their math skills as they build and model numbers to 20.

First Grade

First graders will finish making bats using the Engineering Design Process and will then practice compromise and collaboration as they go back to working in centers. A fun coding center called Squirrel Coding will be introduced as well as some new and challenging Keva Planks challenge cards.

Second Grade

Second graders will finish their study of electricity and will use the Snap Circuits as well as making a light-up card that includes a closed circuit and LED light!!! They will also strengthen their creative thinking skills by doing a "Think Outside the Box" activity.

Third Grade

Third graders will finish using our VEX GO kits to build a magnet car. Teams will then be challenged to make their car move down a track using only magnetism! This activity not only gets them ready to build robots using our VEX IQ Kits but it also gives them some background knowledge on magnets for when they discuss that topic in their classrooms! Collaboration and compromise are stressed within teams!!

Fourth Grade

Fourth graders will finish discussing information transfer and will complete a pixelated picture using 0's and 1's. We'll then talk about the basic principles of waves and how energy can travels through waves! High frequency and low frequency will also be discussed.

Fifth Grade

Fifth graders will finish learning about prosthetics and using the Engineering Design Process to make a prosthetic hand using common materials (card stock paper, string, straws, etc). They'll then move on to learning basics about AI and cyber safety.

Are You Thinking about Christmas/Holiday Gifts???

If you're like me, you're already starting to think about holiday gift giving. Here are some ideas for you if you have someone on your list that is "STEM-Y" and you would like to encourage creative play without a device!
