OBMS Family Weekly Update
August 10, 2025

Welcome back, Panther Families. We hope everyone had an amazing summer. We have been working hard over the summer to get the campus in tip top shape and build lessons to help our Panthers reach academic success. We are looking forward to an awesome 1st week beginning tomorrow. This newsletter is full of information so it will be a bit longer than future newsletters. Please take the time to read through this info and access the links to the required parent documents.

Announcements
- The parent loop is the only supervised pick up and drop off loop at OBMS. This is the loop that wraps around building 2 on the west side of campus. Please use this loop when dropping off or picking up your student. The loop by the track is not an official parent loop and is not supervised. We do not have a gate open to the campus for students to enter/exiting the loop by the track.
- Campus is open at 8:45am. We do not have supervision prior to this time.
- All students will report to the cafeteria beginning at 8:45am. At 8:55am a bell will ring for 7th and 8th graders to move to the gym for morning waiting area and will remain there until the 9:25am bell to report to class. The 6th graders will remain in the cafeteria until the 9:25 bell to report to class. In both waiting areas students should remain seated and calm. Any students arriving between 8:45 - 9:25 may go to the cafeteria for breakfast but will report to their waiting location when they finish breakfast. We will have staff members around campus to assist students in figuring out where they should be throughout the day. Don't worry parents, we will be there for your kiddos. 🥰😉
- NEW!!! We are implementing at staggered dismissal to assist with an more orderly and safe end of the day. At 4:12 (3:12 on ER Wednesdays) we will dismiss car riders and walkers to the parent loop through the gate by the back rack. Once the courtyard area is clear we will dismiss the bus riders to the cafeteria/ bus loop. There will be some "hiccups" the first few days as we implement this new procedure so please be patient.
- This Wednesday is an Early Release Day. Please plan for a 3:15 dismissal.
- NEW PROCEDURES FOR FIRST DAY FOLDERS. This year all forms you are used to coming home in the first day folders, can already be accessed through your PARENT PORTAL. You cannot access the forms through your students' portal, you can only access these required forms through YOUR PARENT PORTAL. If you are having trouble logging into your Parent Portal, please call Tech Support (386) 734-7190 X25000. Some of the forms you can complete on the Parent Portal are:
- Contact Update Form
- Military Family Student Form
- School Information Consent Form
- Student Device Parent Acknowledgment Form - Required to check out a laptop this week.
- Student Housing Questionnaire Form
- Student Code of Conduct - Make sure you review this WITH your student.
- All students in grades 6-12 all required to wear a student identification card at all times when on campus (Florida HB 1473). We will issue their ID cards in 1st period on Monday for free. They will be required to pay $5 to replace their card if they do not have them on. Payment can be done through the Parent Portal for replacement IDs. This is a serious safety measure. In the event of a crisis staff and law enforcement need to be able to identify all students on campus quickly. Students that cover their picture on their ID will be required to replace their ID card.
- As much as we want our scholars to be comfortable and ready to learn, we expect our Panthers to follow the dress code. A new dress code rule we have to implement is sleepwear or clothing that resembles under garments are not permitted. This, along with the other dress code requirements, may result in a call home for someone to bring them appropriate attire for school. We will do our best to help your Panther meet the dress code requirements without having to bother you to bring them appropriate attire, but sometimes we may not be able to make that happen. Please know when you get a call, the staff are just trying to ensure that all Panthers have the best possible learning environment. All dress code requirements can be reviewed in VCS policy 217.
- Please take a few minutes to review the Electronic Device Consequences (see below) in regard to the new state law HB 1105. We have to enforce the law so we ask that if you need to reach your student during the school day, to please call the grade house and we will get them a message.
- Schedules:
- All students will receive a fresh copy of their schedules in their first period class on Monday.
- If your student has "Fund of AD services" on their schedule, this is the agriculture elective.
- We will not be able to consider any schedule changes before August 25th. Please be patient and understand we want to help if we can, but we need to give the classes the first two weeks to settle and then we can make adjustments dependent on class size and prerequisite requirements.
- Cross-Country and Girls Volleyball information will be sent out in the next couple of days. If you are interested in either sport, please make sure you have submitted the EL2 physical form, EL3 consent form, the Pay-to-Play form and payment. Students will not be permitted to participate in anything related to competitive sports without the completed physical and consent forms.
