School Visits
This week, some Year 3 children had an amazing visit to the University of Bradford for the Bradford Literature Festival. They explored the theme 'Amazing Inventions' through talks from a Detroit professor, a Yorkshire storyteller, and author Catherine Barr. The children were a credit to the school with their fantastic behaviour and enthusiasm throughout the day! Year 3 have been incredibly lucky this week as both classes also visited Fountains Abbey. They stepped back in time to learn about life in a medieval monastery and discovered how the monks lived, worked and worshipped. The children were full of curiosity and showed great respect throughout the visit – a fantastic day of history and learning in a beautiful setting. What a week!
Year 3 were not the only year group to venture out. Year 6 visited St. Cuthbert's Church where they took part in some transition activities. They also, whilst on site, took part in a Science dissection lesson led by one of the teachers from Guiseley High School.
Uniform - new option for a PE tracksuit top
Our biggest issue with school uniform is with pupils coming into school in branded hoodies etc on PE days. As you know, this is not part of our policy and pupils will be asked to remove the item and wear a plain one. As another option for PE uniform going forwards, you are now able to buy a Low Ash branded hoodie from Whitakers. Pupils can have their initials printed onto this for a small extra cost. There is no pressure to buy the branded item, but the expectation is that a plain tracksuit top is worn or the Low Ash one - not Adidas, Nike etc.
Whatever your thoughts on school uniform, once your child moves onto secondary school, some won't even let them through the doors if wearing incorrect uniform. If we instill the right mindset now, they find the transition a lot easier.
Family Breakfast
After the success of last half term's family breakfast, we will be holding another one on the penultimate day of term - Tuesday 22nd July. Hopefully you have seen a ping about this. We will be giving priority to those who didn't manage to get a place on the last one as the event was incredibly popular. We hope to see you there!
School holiday activity days
On Tuesday 12th and Wednesday 13th August, some staff from Low Ash are voluntarily giving up their time to lead activity days for interested pupils. These will involve some Forest School sessions, along with some creative activities. All money raised from these days will go to support school. Hopefully you have seen the ping sent about these days. There are still places left so get booking!
Parking
Sadly, every week, we receive at least one complaint about the parking around school. We are also hearing that some people are being verbally abused if they challenge inconsiderate or illegal parking. It is very hard to instil in children that they must follow rules and speak respectfully if parents and carers cannot do this. Last week we sent out a letter jointly written from Low Ash, the police and the Local Council. Please re-read it and abide by parking rules.
Maths Challenge
Well done to the Year 5 children pictured who represented Low Ash at the Titus Salt maths challenge this week. Both teams performed really well.
