PTA Reflections Art Contest Extended - Entries Are Due TONIGHT 10/12
Submissions have been low compared to last year so we wanted to do one final push and give families until tonight Monday 10/12 as he last possible day they can turn in their submissions. Remember, students can do more than one submission. You can start turning in your actual art pieces in the office on Tuesday, 10/13. Thank you so much!
Calling all young artists! The National PTA Reflections Art Competition is now underway!
For over 50 years, Reflections has recognized and celebrated young artists across the country by giving them a fun opportunity to unleash creative talents, express themselves and receive positive recognition for their original works of art.
Providencia Elementary has an incredible legacy of participation in this program - last year we had the MOST submissions of ANY BURBANK SCHOOL (not just elementary!) - and we had TWO STUDENTS make it all the way to Nationals!
Our theme for 2026 - 2027 is “What My Culture Means to Me." This program is for students of all grades. To learn more about the Reflections Art Contest, click here or below.
Entries MUST include an ARTIST’S STATEMENT that relates to the theme.
Please volunteer to help Reflections be a success this year!
If you can help with the following, please sign up here:
- Help with organizing and cataloging pieces as they get turned into the office
- Help be a judge of one of the categories - this can be done on your own time, completed by Nov 2 at the latest
- (GALA IS DEC 11th) If you are interested in helping to plan the gala please sign up in this slot to be on the committee

October DEIB Observances
At Providencia we are committed to addressing ways to create a safe, welcoming and supportive environment where all students, especially students of color and/or those who have been historically marginalized, are respected and valued. With our diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging efforts, we foster a school culture of inclusion, we celebrate our diversity, and students see themselves reflected in our curriculum.
DEIB provides us an opportunity to learn and recognize the contributions and accomplishments of historically marginalized groups. Throughout the month we’ll feature websites and book recommendations, local celebrations and resources.
Diversity, Inclusion, Equity and Belonging Displays
We are working on DEIB displays in our office and student hallway with artifacts and pictures of historical figures. If you would like to display an artifact (i.e. art, clothing, accessories, books) to represent any of the observances below, please label it with your child's name and bring it to school. We will return it at the end of our October observances. Thank you!

October Character Traits of the Month: Curiosity and Creativity
Curiosity
Curiosity fuels exploration and learning.
This quote teaches children that curiosity is a valuable trait that can lead to exploration, learning, and discovery. It encourages them to question the world around them, try new things, and not be afraid to explore and experiment. By embracing curiosity and a willingness to learn, children can develop a growth mindset and become lifelong learners.
Journal Prompt:
Write about a time when your curiosity led you to learn something new or discover something interesting. How did it feel to explore and learn?
Creativity
Encouraging creative problem-solving and optimism.
Kalanick’s perspective promotes an optimistic view of challenges. With creativity and a can-do attitude, solutions can always be found, mirroring the proactive approach of a growth mindset. This quote teaches children that every problem has a solution, and it’s up to them to find it. It encourages them to think creatively, be resourceful, and not give up when faced with challenges. By adopting this mindset, children can become more resilient problem-solvers and develop a growth mindset.
Journal Prompt: Imagine you are an inventor who is faced with a big problem. Write a story about how you use your creativity to find a solution.
We Need Your Participation for Trunk or Treat
We are still looking for families to host cars in our annual Trunk or Treat! It is most fun when kids can trick or treat at many cars instead of going around and around again. Your car does not need to be decorated excessively--Target is selling $15 kits for Trunk or Treat but even setting up a little Halloween decor is fine. There are lots of easy ideas online. Please signup if you are able to bring your car at 4:30 to campus on Friday, 10/23.
Happy Birthday on our Marquee
Celebrate your child's birthday (and support our school) by making a $5 donation for a birthday marquee shout-out! It will be displayed on the month of your child's birthday as:
"Happy [Month] Birthday (Student's First Name)."
We will not display your child's entire last name or their date of birth.
Please complete this form and drop-off your $5 donation in the office (cash or check payable to Providencia PTA) at least 10 days before your child's birthday.
When you submit the form, you will receive a copy of your request from "Google Forms." If you didn't receive an email, please resubmit again.
Questions? Please email Ms. Patti our office assistant at patriciareinoso@burbankusd.org. Thank you for supporting our school!
