Garden Committee
π± Save Our School Garden Program!π±
Grow Portland is a garden education program that provides hands-on environmental science learning to every student at Woodstock Elementary. With grant funding coming to an end this year, we are seeking your help to sustain this valuable partnership for next yearβs students with the goal of raising $5,000. Without this partnership, Woodstock teachers and volunteers would face a big challenge trying to sustain a garden program alone.
Grow Portland serves all K-5 classrooms, inclusive of special education, at least one 45-minute monthly lesson during the school day. Watch this adorable video of a sample kindergarten lesson and learn more on Grow Portlandβs website. Their unique curriculum includes standards-aligned, age-appropriate application of classroom learning objectives aligned to monthly themes below:
September- Welcome to the Garden!
October- Signs of Fall & Garden Stewardship
November- Soil: The Health and Science Beneath Our Feet
December- Water: The Key to Life
January- Local Birds: Adaptations & Garden Ecosystems
February- Food Systems
March- Plant Parts & Functions
April- Insects & Pollination
May/June- Garden Celebrations and Summer Planting!
Please consider making a donation today. A gift of any size will make a difference, and every contribution will directly support our studentsβ learning experience in the garden. Thank you for considering!
