4 Weeks of School - Already?
Through meticulous planning and intentional lesson design, the first four weeks of school have seen our students busily laying the foundation for an amazing year of learning and growth. Children have practiced working independently, with peers, and in small group centers; they have practiced sharing materials, taking turns and understanding what quality work looks and sounds like at their grade/developmental level. Taking the time to establish routines and procedures helps teachers and students build a culture for learning in the classroom. In addition, the first weeks of school were spent collecting academic information and insight into learning styles that will allow their teachers to know your child as a learner and subsequently target their instruction to address their learning needs.
Community Lunches @ GES
This year, our GES school community will be hosting three Community Lunches. A Community Lunch is simply an open invitation for our families to come to school and have lunch with us.
The dates for this year's K-4 Community Lunches are -
- Friday, October 16, 12:30-1:00 PM
- Friday, February 5, 12:30-1:00 PM
- Thursday, May 5, 12:30-1:00 PM
Attendees should plan to bring their own lunch. We ask that you do not arrive earlier than 12:25 as preschool will be eating in the MPR.
Visitors will sign in before entering the school and sign out after the lunch period.
Fall Assessments for K-4 Learners
This September, our students are taking part in important assessments that help us better understand their learning and ensure they receive the support they need.
Dyslexia Screenings (Grades K–3):
New Hampshire law (RSA 200:59) requires schools to screen all students in kindergarten through grade 3 for potential indicators of dyslexia and related disorders. These screenings are not diagnostic but help us identify students who may be at risk and allow us to intervene with systematic and structured literacy interventions. Between September 14th and 25th, K–3 students will participate in district-wide benchmarking assessments. These assessment measures look at foundational reading skills, including rapid automatic naming (how quickly students can name specific objects), word reading accuracy, and general reading comprehension. Families will receive results once testing is complete, including whether a secondary screener is recommended.
MAP Growth Assessments (Grades 1–4):
During the same testing window, students in grades 1–4 will also take the MAP® Growth™ assessments in reading and math. These adaptive tests adjust to each child’s responses, giving teachers valuable insight into what students already know and what they are ready to learn next. Following testing, families will receive a Family Report summarizing academic progress and growth. For more information, you can visit NWEA.org/familytoolkit
Thank you for your continued partnership as we work together to support every child’s growth and success.
Warm regards,
