Message From the Principal
Dear Westridge Families,
Thank you to everyone who joined us for today’s Veterans Day assemblies! This special tradition reminds us of the incredible service and sacrifice of our veterans and their families. Their courage and commitment safeguard the freedoms we enjoy every day, and we are honored to celebrate and learn from their example. Please join us in expressing gratitude to all who have served - your presence today made this event truly meaningful for our students. A heartfelt thank you to Mr. Jim Steimer, our music teacher, for preparing our student performers to put on such an outstanding and meaningful show - his dedication helped make the event truly memorable!
As we wrap up this week, we want to thank you for helping our students start the second quarter strong! Your partnership ensured a smooth transition back to learning after the long weekend.
Thank you for staying united, success-oriented, and focused on doing whatever it takes to improve student outcomes. Your support makes all the difference.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend,
-Steven Wilson

Impact Aid
- The Impact Aid survey is now open and available for completion in ParentVUE. All parents should complete this survey by November 30,2025. Please visit the PWCS Federal Impact Aid website for instructions on how to complete the survey. For assistance with your ParentVUE account, please contact the school. The following are a few key facts from the Impact Aid website to provide you further information about Impact Aid:
- School districts with military installations or other federal lands within their boundaries lose local revenue because of nontaxable federal activities. Impact Aid funding partially reimburses school districts for this loss of locally derived revenue.
- Examples of eligible federal properties include national parks, military installations, and federal office buildings but there are many more.
- Federally connected and military connected are not the same. Parents can be federally connected but are not military connected. This is why it is important for ALL parents to complete the Impact Aid survey.
- Parent information captured on the Impact Aid survey is used solely to submit the Impact Aid application.
- Since enrollment changes and students move from year to year, the U.S. Department of Education requires school districts to count students annually. With that said, parents should complete a new Impact Aid survey every school year.
- Why is Impact Aid important?
Most public school districts are funded in large part by local revenue. Federal properties in Prince William County are tax exempt, which decreases the amount of revenue available to school districts. Impact Aid is the way “Uncle Sam” pays its taxes – supporting the education of students in Prince William County. - How do school districts use Impact Aid funds?
The funds can be used to support general education needs such as instructional materials, technology, and social-emotional support to name a few.
Principal's Advisory Council (PAC)
The Principal’s Advisory Council (PAC) offers a meaningful platform for parents and teachers to come together, share insights, and collaborate on valuable feedback to guide our school’s Continuous Improvement Plan (CIP). We warmly invite all Westridge families to join us for our next PAC meeting on Tuesday, November18, 2025, from 6:00 to 7:00 PM in the WRES Library. All parents and caretaker voices and perspectives are vital in strengthening our school environment and advancing our commitment to student success, school culture, and a positive climate.
If you have any questions or suggestions in advance of the meeting, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Principal Steven Wilson directly. Your engagement and support are truly appreciated, and together, we’re making Westridge a place where every student can thrive!
Thank you for being such an important part of our community. We look forward to working with you!

Westridge Spirit Wear
We’re excited to share that our school spirit wear store is now open! 🎉 Flyers will be coming home in Friday folders, so keep an eye out!
The store features fun, optional items like hoodies, joggers, zip-ups, tie-dye shirts, and long/short sleeve house-colored shirts. These are extra ways for students to show their school spirit—they’re not replacing our traditional house shirts.
We’re also working with a new vendor so families can order replacement house shirts, and we’ll share more info soon once those become available!
💙 All proceeds from spirit wear sales go directly toward funding programs for our students through the House System—including celebrations, team-building activities, and events that build community and school pride.
Thanks for your support and enthusiasm as we kick off this exciting new chapter!

Cell Phone-Free Education Policy
This year, Prince William County Public Schools took a bold and research-based step forward by adopting the new Cell Phone-Free Education Policy. Beginning in August 2025, all schools will implement a bell-to-bell policy that limits cell phone use during the instructional day. This
decision, shaped by community input and a successful pilot across 33 schools, is rooted in a
shared goal: creating classroom environments where students are fully present—mentally,
emotionally, and socially. The student-created slogan, “Stop the scroll, take control,” reminds us
that this policy is about empowerment, not restriction. It is about reclaiming focus, restoring
meaningful human connection, and giving our students every opportunity to thrive. For more
information, I invite you to review the PWCS FAQ page. We are grateful for your engagement
and look forward to continuing this important work together.
Student Circulation Notifications
Parents/guardians in Prince William County Public Schools receive a daily email of student-selected library materials checked out, renewed, or returned by their student each day.
These automated emails are sent to the primary parent/guardian email address, which is the first emergency contact designated by parents/guardians in the Annual Back to School Packet, ensuring you stay informed about your student’s reading activities. This feature will be activated for all PWCS students.
If the student does not check out, renew, or return a book on that day, no email will be sent.
In addition, the PWCS library management system allows parents to connect to their child’s school library catalog through an “Additional User Type” and designate restrictions on student-selected library materials.
Please note: Restriction of library materials using the “Additional User Type” is a parent's responsibility. Librarians and school administrators can provide the link but cannot provide support within the system.
Please visit the Parent Library Controls webpage for more information.

Crisis and Emergency Preparedness in PWCS
PWCS is committed to ensuring safe and welcoming environments for students and staff. If a safety concern or crisis occurs in or near our schools, PWCS uses standard terms to communicate with families. Watch this video to become familiar with the terms.
Free Mental Health Resources for Students

Together, we can make a significant difference in the mental well-being of our students now and beyond.
