Please take a few minutes to look through our newsletter for important updates and information. Also, don’t forget that our PTO meeting is this Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the commons. We hope to see you there!

New Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures

Our goal is to make morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up safe and smooth for everyone. Please follow these updated procedures:

  • Be mindful of buses between 7:30 and 7:40 a.m. Our buses need clear access to drop off students and stay on schedule before picking up middle and high school students.
  • Pull forward as far as possible so vehicles behind you can also drop off.
  • Please do not stop directly in front of the playground, as this slows the flow of traffic.
  • Students should always exit vehicles from the passenger side, directly onto the sidewalk.
  • If you would like to walk your child inside, please park in the parking lot and use our freshly painted crosswalk.

Please follow the same procedures at dismissal. Buses arrive between 2:30 and 2:35 p.m., so it is important to keep the bus area clear. After the busses have pulled away cars may move forward. Vehicles, please pull forward, have your child enter the vehicle from the passenger side, and then carefully continue on your way.

  • Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work together to keep all Harwood students and families safe!

One of the best parts of the school day is lunchtime, and we'd love for you to share that time with your child! Joining your child for lunch is a great way to encourage them, celebrate their school experience, and support our school lunch program.

To help our lunch periods run smoothly, please keep the following in mind:

  • Call the school no later than 9:00 a.m. on the day you plan to visit.
  • Outside food is not permitted in the cafeteria.
  • Visitors may purchase a school lunch and pay with:
    • Exact cash
    • Check
    • Funds deducted from their child's lunch account

Lunch visitors are welcome September 21 through May 14. This allows our students time to establish routines at the beginning of the school year and helps minimize disruptions during the busy end-of-year season.

SAFETY SAFETY

DOORS LOCKED:

All our doors are locked during the school day. Door #1 will provide access to our office, and all are we ask that you to use our buzz-in system to enter. We understand that this may cause an inconvenience but please understand that this is to increase safety for our children. Thank you for your understanding.

CHECK IN AT OFFICE:

Please remember to check in at the office when visiting the school. We will have you sign-in through our computer which will print you out a badge.

STUDENT OFFICE CHECK OUT PROCEDURES:

In order to maintain security and safety for our students, the following procedures have been put in place.

- When checking out your child prior to the end of the school day, parents (guardian) need to come go to the office and sign them out. When you come to sign out your child we will call them down to the office at that time to minimize loss learning time.

- Please let others know that if they are picking up your child and we do not recognize them, we will be asking for ID to verify that they are able to pick up one of our students. Thank you for understanding that it is for the safety of our children.

ABSENCES:

If your child is going to be absent or tardy, (illness, appointments, etc.), we appreciate parents calling the school office before 8:00. Calls will be made to your home or work if no calls are received. Tardy students, students returning or leaving the building must sign in and sign out in the office.
