GJPS Seasons of Success
Our GJPS Seasons of Success profile should have hit your mailbox recently! This year for our quality profile, we took a look at the fantastic work being done by our staff and students during all four seasons of the year.
If you missed your copy, you can check it out on our website. Thank you for being part of our seasons of success!
Heart and Pride Award
Congratulations to this month's Heart and Pride award winners! Haylee Perry, English Language Arts Teacher at Middle School West, and Jessica Williams, Principal at GLHS, were recognized at the November Board of Education meeting for showcasing the Heart of a Lion and the Power of the Pride.
If you know of a staff member, regardless of position, who exemplifies our District values, be sure to nominate them!
Visual & Performing Arts Gifted Education Identification
Each year, school districts in Ohio are required to offer an opportunity for students in grades K-12 to be identified as gifted in the area of Visual and Performing Arts. The identified areas of giftedness for Visual and Performing Arts include Visual Arts, Vocal Music, Instrumental Music, Drama/Theater and Dance.
The deadline is quickly approaching, so if you know of a student that may be gifted in an area of the Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) learn more about the identification process.
Chapelfield Elementary
During Chapelfield Elementary's Veterans Day ceremony, students and staff took a moment to honor one of their own, third grade teacher and U.S. Navy veteran Mr. Rob Williams. Mr. Williams will retire at the end of this school year after more than 30 years of teaching, and his Chapelfield family surprised him with a special gift...a folded flag that has flown proudly over the school for many years.
A heartfelt thank you to Mr. Williams for his service to both our country and GJPS!
Middle School South
A Visit with Ted Ginn Jr.
Students stretched, exercised and learned about healthy eating and sleeping habits from special guest Ted Ginn Jr., former Ohio State and NFL standout...with a little 6/7 counting thrown in for good measure (IYKYK).
Gahanna Lincoln High School
Girls Cross Country for the WIN!
Congratulations to our GLHS Girls Cross Country team for winning the Division I State Championship! This is the first ever state championship for the program. The team and coaches were recognized for their accomplishments by the Board of Education at their November meeting.
Lincoln Live takes home Student Emmys
Congratulations to our Lincoln Live students who secured two wins in the National Student Emmy Awards, put on by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. The GLHS program received six nominations this year, second most among any school in the country.
Lincoln Live won the National Student Emmy for BEST NEWSCAST and the first semester Lincoln Sports Zone won the National Student Emmy for BEST SPORTS PROGRAM! This was the second time the program has won both of these awards in a single year, with the first time being in 2022.
Our students also combined for an additional four nominations at the national level:
- Best Sports Program: Lincoln Sports Zone-Second Semester
- Nonfiction Short: Minutes to Save a Life
- Cultural Affairs: The Voices of Diaspora
- Writing: Brooke Thomas
Congratulations to the winners and all students involved in Lincoln Live for another fantastic showing on the national stage!
