Oh my! March came in so quietly, like a lamb, it completely snuck up on me and I forgot to do our newsletter. I am so sorry!

I hope this does not mean March will go out like a lamb! I am sure some of you remember the Blizzard of '93 that happened 30 years ago this month. I cannot believe that was 30 years ago! Anyway, we all know it can snow in these mountains up into April, so I'm not putting up my winter clothes yet.

There are a lot of exciting events coming up in the months ahead. On Thursday, March 2 we had our first ever Amazing Shake competition with our 5th grade students. The Amazing Shake is a competition that helps students develop professional skills, such as manners, discipline, respect and how to conduct themselves in a professional environment. Our students did really well and the top 16 students have been selected and will represent us at the district competition on March 23 at Banner Elk Elementary. Next year, it is our plan to add 4th grade student, then the following year we will add our 3rd grade. We believe this is an excellent way for our students to learn and develop professional qualities-from the mechanics of a proper handshake to the soft skills they need to present themselves exceptionally well for opportunities today and in the future!

We would also like to thank our teachers and community members who came out and helped us to judge.
