Dear FC Families,/Friends,

As we wrap up November, we want to pause and express our sincere gratitude for the students and families we are so fortunate to serve. November is always a meaningful month, and this year was no exception. Our classrooms were filled with kindness, cooperation, and hard work, and we are truly thankful for the support you give your children and our staff each day. To our students, thank you for your curiosity, effort, and positive attitudes. We encourage you to carry that same spirit of gratitude into December by respecting your teachers, encouraging your classmates, and finishing the semester on a strong, positive note.

Looking ahead, December will move quickly, with only fifteen days left in the semester. During this time, students will participate in our middle-of-the-year testing, including NWEA assessments for all grade levels. Families who would like to learn more about how NWEA supports growth and instruction may visit the NWEA Parent Toolkit at https://www.nwea.org/parent-toolkit/. Students in grades 3 through 6 will also continue working on ILEARN Checkpoint 2 standards. More information for families about ILEARN can be found on the Indiana Department of Education website at https://www.in.gov/doe/students/assessment/ilearn/. These assessments help guide instruction and ensure we are meeting students’ academic needs as they continue to grow.

Our K-Kids are hosting a special First Responders Luncheon this month. Any FC first responder is invited to enjoy a meal served by our students as a thank you for all that you do to support our community. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to show appreciation and for our school to honor the dedicated men and women who keep us safe. First responders interested in attending should contact our school office for more information.

We are also very excited to share details about our upcoming Winter musical performances. Students in grades 1-3 will perform on December 15th at 6:00 PM in the Robert E. Wise Auditorium. Students may arrive between 5:30 and 5:50 PM. Our Kindergarten Winter musical will take place on Thursday, December 18th, at 6:00 PM in the Fayette Central gym. These performances are always special moments in our school year, and we look forward to welcoming families as we celebrate the joy and spirit of the holiday season together.

As winter weather approaches, we want to remind families of our weather-related closure plan. If school must be closed due to inclement weather, the first two closure days will be e-learning days. When poor weather is in the forecast, Chromebooks will be sent home with students. Please make sure devices are returned to school fully charged and ready to use. All assignments for e-learning days will be posted in Google Classroom, and teachers will share any additional instructions through ClassDojo. The e-learning handbook will be attached below for families to review, and the included infographic provides an overview of how we communicate closures and delays.

We are also thrilled to announce an all-school field trip to Showtime Cinema to watch Zootopia 2 before Winter break. The movie is rated PG, and every student will need a signed permission slip to attend. Families have the option to pre-purchase popcorn and a Starry drink; however, no other concessions will be open during our visit. FC staff and volunteers will be assisting at the theater so that teachers may have the gift of time to complete grading and preparation before break, allowing them to enjoy the holiday season with friends and family. Parents may review the movie trailer here.

As we approach the winter holidays, we want to extend our warmest wishes to all of our families. We hope your break is filled with joy, peace, rest, and time spent with those you love. Thank you for being an essential part of our FC community. We are grateful for you, and we look forward to beginning a wonderful new year together.

I wish you a blessed December,

Mrs. Phillips

PTO Santa Shop

Our PTO members have gone above and beyond to select wonderful gifts for this year’s Santa Shop. All items are priced at just $2.00. This event is not a fundraiser; the PTO’s goal is simply to give every child the opportunity to purchase a special gift for someone they care about. Each student may initially buy up to two gifts. Once all students have had the chance to shop, they may return to purchase additional gifts if desired. PTO volunteers will be hosting the Santa Shop from December 10th through 12th.

Weather Related Closures

As much as we hate to face it, colder weather is upon us. When bad weather hits, our team is on the roads early, checking conditions and working with local officials to decide if delays or cancellations are needed.

Every decision is made with one goal in mind…keeping our students, families, and staff safe.

We are hopeful this graphic helps explain the process of making these decisions. We thank you in advance for your grace and understanding as we move into a new season.

IMPORTANT SCHOOL BUS SAFETY MESSAGE

Spartan Family,
We need your help to keep our children safe! Please share and spread the word. This school year, with the help of local law enforcement, we have issued multiple tickets weekly for school bus stop arm violations. While we see these violations throughout the county, many have come from wider roads within Connersville city limits such as Park Road. Although this and other roads may have multiple lanes, they still require vehicles to stop in both directions.

In Indiana, it's illegal for drivers to pass a stopped school bus that has its red lights flashing and stop-arm extended. This applies to all roads except for motorists on a highway that is divided by a barrier, such as a concrete wall or grassy median. Here in Fayette County, this includes virtually ALL of our roadways.

In short, if you see flashing yellow lights, prepare to stop.
If you see flashing red lights, stop in both directions.

Fayette County School Corporation buses are equipped with stop arm cameras. Those who illegally pass a stopped school bus will be held accountable. Violators could pay a fine of up to $10,000 or have their license suspended for up to 90 days for the first offense or up to a year for the second. This is never what we want to happen, but we are willing to take every possible step to keep our children safe.

We thank you for your continued help and support as we strive to protect our most precious assets...our children.

Mr. Jeremy Duncan
Superintendent, Fayette County School Corporation
