Ms. Wood's Newsletter #1
Wednesday, August 12th - Friday, August 14th
💌Hello Kindergarten Families!🧸
Thank you all for taking the time to come in yesterday! I loved getting to meet each of you and your children, and I am so excited to partner with you to make sure every child in our class has an amazing Kindergarten year!
Each week, I will send out a classroom newsletter in this format. Please take a few minutes to read it each week, as it will include important dates, reminders, upcoming events, what we are learning, and other classroom updates. This will be one of the best ways to stay up to date on everything happening in our classroom!
Please be sure to send your child’s PINK & BLUE permission slips back tomorrow!

🚨Important Classroom Reminders🚨
🎒Morning Drop Off🌅
On the first two days of school, Wednesday, 8/12 and Thursday, 8/13, parents may walk their child into the building for a quick goodbye at our classroom door.
Starting Friday, 8/14, students will walk into the building and make their way to our classroom independently. We will have lots of extra staff members in the hallways to help students find their way and make sure everyone gets where they need to go!
To help your child feel confident, please make sure they know my name, Miss Wood, in case they need to ask an adult for help. It is also helpful to point out a few hallway landmarks they can recognize and follow on their way to our classroom.
🍉Snack/Lunch on Soft Start Days🥨
We will not be eating lunch on these short days, so students do not need to bring a lunch, and hot lunch will not be served in the cafeteria.
We will still have snack time, so please send your child with a full water bottle with plain water only and a snack to hold them over until dismissal.
Please choose a snack that is easy to eat with fingers and does not require a fork or spoon. Save all soupy, slurpy, or sloppy foods for the cafeteria, please! 😊
🚘Dismissal on Soft Start Days🚗
On Wednesday, 8/12, Thursday, 8/13, and Friday, 8/14, Kindergarten and PreK students ONLY will be dismissed at 11:20 a.m.
Please follow our regular carline procedure for dismissal. Enter the parking lot at the roundabout and continue along the front of the building. Kindergarten and PreK students will be lined up outside, and staff will help your child safely get into your car. Once your child is safely inside, continue to the left around the back of the building, then through the roundabout and onto Business Center Drive.
Please use the carline instead of parking and walking across the crosswalk. These first few days are a great opportunity for students to practice the dismissal routine we will use throughout the school year.
Important Carline Reminders
• Please remain in your vehicle at all times during carline. Staff and volunteers will be available to help students get in and out of their cars safely.
• If possible, please keep the back seat on the left side of your vehicle clear of sibling car seats or other items so your child can quickly and easily get in and out.
• If your child needs help buckling their seat belt, please allow them to get into the car first and then continue through the carline. Once you reach Business Center Drive, you may safely pull over to help them buckle. This helps us keep the carline moving safely and efficiently for everyone.
Thank you for helping us practice our dismissal routine and keep carline running smoothly!
📅Late Start Fridays in Douglas County⏰
Many of you asked today so I thought I'd make sure everyone knows. SkyView Academy is not having late starts on Fridays like the rest of the district. We will start at usual time every day.
📝What are we learning?💡
During our Soft Start Days, we will focus on getting comfortable in our new classroom, getting to know one another, and learning important classroom routines and expectations. We will also read some fun back to school stories and complete crafts and activities to go along with them!
Our class will begin learning and practicing playground rules and expectations, and on Friday, we will visit the cafeteria for snack time to get a short introduction to lunchroom routines and expectations before our first full day of school.
