September 2025
Welcome Back Shoremen and Shoregals!
Avon Lake High School,
The new school year is officially underway, and it’s been energizing to see our hallways filled with excitement and enthusiasm. Whether your student is just starting their high school journey or stepping into their final year, we’re thrilled to have them back and ready to learn.
Over the past couple of weeks, our classrooms have come alive with meaningful conversations, engaging lessons. Teachers and students alike are back in the swing of learning by asking questions, tackling challenges, and building the kind of school community that makes learning joyful and impactful.
We know that the start of the year can be both exciting and demanding, but we are committed to supporting every student as they grow academically, socially, and emotionally. There’s so much to look forward to: new experiences, deeper connections, and opportunities to shine.
Thank you for being our partners in this important work. Together, we’re building a strong, vibrant school year. Please take note that there is a student early release day on September 24th.
I encourage everyone to stay communicative and engaged with our outstanding staff, as they are here to support and guide students throughout their high school journey.
Please visit our high school website and pay special attention to social media and School Messenger for updates.
Last, take a look at our U.S. News & World Report ranking: Avon Lake High School - Ohio Districts. We continue to rise among the best high schools in the country, in Ohio, and are #1 in Lorain County. Here is Cleveland.com's article: Avon Lake High School Tops in Lorain County.

The Marching Shoremen are Back!
The Avon Lake Marching Shoremen started off their season with an outstanding performance at the Avon Lake/ Strongsville game showcasing the historic "Payload" song from the band's 1990's era. They were also able to perform a portion of their OMEA competition show WANTED.
This year the Marching Shoremen will be performing a show called "WANTED". This is a spaghetti western type of show that will have a bank robbery and more! We will be performing portions of it throughout the season with a possible post-game show performance at one of our home games!

News from the Nurse
*Reminder parents/guardians of 12th grade students*
The Ohio Department of Health requires that *2 doses of MCV4-Meningococcal vaccine be administered before a student enters 12th grade. This vaccine protects against meningitis. If the first dose of MCV4 was administered on or after the 16th birthday, a second dose is not required. Ohio Revised Code (Section 3313.671) requires “exclusion” on the 15th day of school entrance of all pupils who do not meet the above requirements. If you have not done so already, please send in a copy of your child’s immunizations which show that they have received these vaccines. A copy can also be emailed to: Debra.Valadez@alcsoh.org
If you would like more information on meningitis, please use the following link https://www.cdc.gov/meningococcal/
*If you choose to not have your child vaccinated, a waiver form must be completed and be on file. You can print out a waiver form by going to www.avonlakecityschools.org Click “District” on the top menu, select Health news, scroll down under School Medical Forms for the immunization wavier form.
