PIONEER PRINCIPLES
Be Respectful - Be Responsible - Be Safe - Progress as a Learner
PIONEERS OF THE WEEK!
Teachers will be nominating students that demonstrate our Pioneer Principles!
Would you like to volunteer?
If you would like to come in to the school for classroom parties, attend field trips, or volunteer for school events, you have to have an active background check on file with SafeVisitor Solutions. These background checks cost approx. $15, they are good for 3 years for all Perry Township Schools. It can take up to 2 weeks to complete the process, so please apply ASAP.
SLOW DOWN, BE COURTEOUS!
Families, please watch your speed while driving through the
Mary Bryan parking lot! Our parking lot and campus are huge, which means we get a LOT of traffic. It's VERY important that all drivers drive slowly and watch out for other cars and pedestrians.
Speed Limit signs have been posted at 10 mph.
Also, remember that car rider pickup is 2 lanes that merge into one. Families need to be courteous of one another and always remain INSIDE your vehicle!

Attendance Requirements by Law
To: Perry Township Parents and Guardians
From: Office of Student Services
Date: July 20, 2026
Dear Parent/Guardian,
As per Indiana Code 20-18-2-26.5.1, schools are required to establish a truancy prevention process that defines an “absent student,” both excused and unexcused, to ensure students are attending school. To meet the requirements of this new Indiana Law, Perry Township has implemented the following changes:
1. For absences to be counted as excused, parents/guardians may notify the school via
phone, email, or note if a student is sick or will miss school up to 10 times.
2. After the 10th excused absence, all absences will be marked unexcused unless the
following is provided:
a. illness verified by a note from a physician
b. recovery from accident (verified by a physician’s statement)
c. required court attendance (verified by court documentation)
d. professional appointments – Parents are encouraged to schedule medical, dental, legal, and other necessary appointments other than during school hours. When appointments are necessary during the school day, the student shall report back to school immediately after the appointment with a signed statement from the doctor, dentist, lawyer, counselor, etc.
e. death in the immediate family
f. observation or celebration of a bona fide religious holiday
g. college visitation (verified by documentation from college)
h. military connected families’ absences related to deployment and return
i. participation in locally approved FFA or the state fair.
j. such other good cause as may be acceptable to the Superintendent or permitted by law.
3. For all K-12 students who accumulate five unexcused absences during a 10 week period, your student’s school is required to invite you and hold an attendance conference within five days of the last unexcused absence.
a. At this conference, the school’s attendance officer, a teacher, and a counselor/social worker will meet to create a plan to address the on-going attendance issues.
b. If a parent cannot attend the conference, the school will create a plan and share the plan with the parent via email, parentsquare, or sending it home with the child.
4. Be aware that for all K-12 students who continue to accumulate unexcused absences the district is required at certain points to make a Department of Child Services report for K-6 students and a truancy report to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office for all students.
While some of these requirements may seem severe, the intent of the law is to impress upon parents
and families the importance of regular school attendance. Research and practice clearly demonstrate the correlation between student success and attending school. Students who miss more than 10% of a school year (18 days) develop gaps in instruction that hinder their long-term learning and academic growth. We need your students in school to ensure they are learning and growing so they can be as successful as possible.
Sincerely,
Stephanie Quinlan
Director of Student Services
LUNCH INFORMATION
Guidelines for Having lunch with your children at school:
Parents are encouraged to check-in five minutes before the scheduled lunch time. Adults must bring government issued ID (driver’s license, military ID, etc.) to check-in for lunch.
Visitors and their student(s) will sit separately from other students at a specified table in the cafeteria. Students are no longer permitted to invite friends to sit with them when an adult comes in for lunch.
Cell phone use is strictly prohibited in the cafeteria. Visitors may not take pictures, text, or take phone calls while in the cafeteria. This is to ensure the safety and security of the students in the cafeteria.
Adults visiting for lunch are to use the staff restroom across from the cafeteria. Adults are not permitted to leave the immidiate area of the cafeteria (i.e. no walking through the halls and no visiting classrooms).
It is against the grant funding guidelines for students to share their school lunch with adults or other students. Perry students can use their student number to purchase their own lunch. Adults may purchase a school lunch if they would like. To purchase a school lunch, the cost is $5.50. Parents may not use money in students’ accounts to purchase meals. Only cash/check is accepted.
- You may bring outside food into the cafeteria to enjoy with your student.
- Parents bringing outside food may not share with other students. We have many children in the building with allergies and food restrictions. You may only bring in food for your own children.
Share table items are for students only.
You may come have lunch with your student!
Please make sure you have your ID so the office is able to create you a badge to wear while in our building. Cash/check only. The lunch times are listed below.

Hello Pioneer families!
I would to take this opportunity to share information about our school's Title 1 status. Mary Bryan Elementary is fortunate that we qualify for Title 1 funds, which enable us to offer resources and support for our students and families.
As a Title 1 school, we are committed to working alongside our parents to provide our students a high quality education so that we may empower our students to pioneer their path to a positive future!
This partnership is outlined in our Title 1 School & Parent Compact:
It is important that families and schools work together to help students achieve high academic standards. Through a process that includes teachers, families, students and community members, the following are agreed upon rules and responsibilities that we as stakeholders will carry out to support the success of all students in school and in life.
Teachers and Staff:
I agree to carry out the following responsibilities to the best of my ability:
Teach classes through interesting and challenging lessons that promote student achievement.
Endeavor to motivate my students to learn.
Have high expectations and help every child to develop a love of learning.
Communicate regularly with families about student progress through midterms, report cards, newsletters, internet or notes home, and conferences via phone or in person.
Provide a warm, safe, and caring learning environment.
Participate in professional development opportunities that improve teaching and learning, and support the formation of partnership with families and the community.
Actively participate in collaborative decisions and consistently work with families and colleagues to make our school an accessible and welcoming place for families.
Respect the school, and all students, teachers, staff and families.
Discuss the compact at annual teacher/parent conferences.
Students:
I agree to carry out the following responsibilities to the best of my ability:
Come to school ready to learn and work hard.
Bring necessary materials, completed assignments, and homework.
Know and follow school and classroom rules and be on my best behavior.
Communicate regularly with my parents and teachers about school experiences so that they can help me to be successful in school.
Limit technology use, and instead study or read every day after school and practice what I am learning.
Respect the school, and all students, teachers, staff and families of Jeremiah Gray Kindergarten Academy and other schools.
Family/Parents:
I agree to carry out the following responsibilities to the best of my ability:
Provide a safe quiet time and place for homework and monitor TV viewing and the use of the internet.
Assist my child (ren) in keeping organized and being punctual.
Read to my child or encourage my child to read every day (20 minutes K-3; 30 minutes grade 4-5).
Ensure that my child attends school daily, gets enough sleep, regular medical attention, and proper nutrition.
Regularly monitor my child’s progress in school, and communicate with the teacher when questions and concerns arise.
Participate in school activities, volunteer as I am able, and attend parent/teacher conferences.
Communicate the importance of education and learning to my child.
Respect the school, and all students, teachers, staff and families.
Additionally, I would like to share with you a brief presentation that gives you more information about our school. Please click here to read and review our Title 1 Presentation.
