MEET ANH NGUYEN-JOHNSON: HAZELDALE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL MEET ANH NGUYEN-JOHNSON: HAZELDALE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

Hello, Hazeldale Community! I am honored to join Hazeldale Elementary as your new Assistant Principal. I look forward to partnering with you to support our students and celebrate the learning and growth ahead.

A bit about me: I was born in Vietnam and raised near Philadelphia. My husband and I have two children who recently graduated from Southridge High School. I have coached girls lacrosse since 2016—mostly 7th and 8th grade—and have served on the Oregon Girls Lacrosse Association Board since 2021. Most recently, I coached the Southridge HS girls team for the past two seasons.

I hold degrees from Syracuse University, Portland State University, and Lewis & Clark College. After starting my teaching career on the East Coast, I spent 19 years in Portland as a teacher and administrator, including serving as Principal and Assistant Principal in elementary, middle, Dual Language Immersion, and alternative schools. In 2023, I joined the Beaverton School District as Assistant Principal at Bonny Slope Elementary.

I am proud to be part of a community that inspires every child to think, learn, care, and engage. Hazeldale’s commitment to academic excellence, resilience, and collaboration through inquiry, exploration, and service deeply aligns with my values and passion for inclusive, empowering education. I am excited for the year ahead and cannot wait to get to know each of you!

Please drop students off at the front of the building at 7:30 AM. Family members can drive up through the drop off line, designated by the blue line on the map below, or park and walk their student to the front of the building. Please help keep traffic moving by pulling up as far as possible along the curb, using the crosswalk to cross the parking lot, and only dropping students off once you have passed the crossing guard (not in the parking lot). And remember, there will be a line of cars in order of arrival. Please, do NOT cross in front of other cars. Wait your turn!

Students should line up by the front door closest to the right and form a line around the building. At 7:30, a staff member will open one door , students will be greeted and allowed inside the building. Students in grades 1 to 5 enter through the right door. Kindergarten and Prek students enter the building using the left door.

PreK students wait outside in the designated area with a family member/guardian until a staff member arrives to greet and bring students inside the building. Please, remember, the first day for prek students is on September 8th.

*Please note: There is no supervision until 7:30am. Please do not drop your child before then.

BUS INFORMATION BUS INFORMATION

If a student qualifies for busing, families will received a message from the district Transportation Department with their student’s route information via ParentSquare. Elementary students who live more than one mile from school qualify for busing; families do not need to register. Visit our Transportation Department page for more information.

It is very important that we know how your student will be getting home from school each day. Your child’s teacher will collect this information when they introduce themselves on Thursday, 8/21, during the Meet & Greet. Please make sure the teacher knows how your student is going home.

Please choose only one transportation option. We strongly recommend that changes to dismissal plans be kept to a minimum to avoid confusing the children (and the adults that serve them), but if it is necessary to make a change, please send a written note, or call the office prior to 12:00pm. (Teachers are busy during the day and are not able to check email and/or ParentSquare).

MEDICATION AT SCHOOL MEDICATION AT SCHOOL

If your student will need medications at school, prescription or over-the-counter, parents need to bring those to school and fill out a Medication Authorization Form. You can stop by our school office during Meet Your Teacher night with your medication and fill out the form. You can find more information on medication requirements on our district website:

RESOURCES RESOURCES

Birthday Invitations Information

Parents/Guardians should NOT bring treats, balloons, etc. to the classroom for a “birthday party.”

In addition:

1. Birthdays may be celebrated in the classroom through the reading of a child's favorite book or by creating cards, for example. This approach will allow for each student’s birthday to be recognized, maximizing instructional time, as well as limiting the sugary foods that are consumed when regularly celebrating birthdays in the classroom, avoiding allergic reactions and honoring the diversity among our students and families.

2. If your child wants to invite children from the class to a birthday party outside of school, the invitations should not be delivered to children at school unless the whole class is being invited. Please note that student phone and addresses are confidential and therefore cannot be provided by the teacher.

3. A great way to celebrate your child's special day is to send to school their favorite picture book to be shared aloud with the whole class. Make sure you let your student's teacher know about it.

Electronic Devices

All personal electronic devices — including cell phones, earbuds, headphones and smartwatches, must be stored in backpacks during the school day.

Devices must be off and away from the first bell to the last bell of the school day — including restroom breaks and lunchtime.

Student Personal Belongings

Please, remember to label all your student's personal belongings as well as to send extra clothes in the backpack. Accidents can happen and the school doesn't have extra clothes to provide to all students. Thanks for understanding!

NEW FEE FOR ALL CREDIT CARD PAYMENTS NEW FEE FOR ALL CREDIT CARD PAYMENTS

Starting this month, a convenience fee will be added to all online payments made with a credit or debit card via the district's online portal. The fee includes:

  • $0.40 per transaction

  • Plus 3.69% of the total amount

This fee helps cover processing costs and only applies to credit card payments. Cash and check payments will not have any fees added.

HAZELDALE TEAM H.O.P.E UPDATES HAZELDALE TEAM H.O.P.E UPDATES

Hello Hazeldale Families!

We’re so excited to kick off the 2025–2026 school year! Team H.O.P.E. (Hazeldale’s Parent Teacher Organization) is ready to bring fresh ideas, fun events, and meaningful ways to support our students, staff, and school family. We are also hoping to have a dedicated website for the PTO up and running soon, so stay tuned for that!

This year, our goal is simple but important: to create an inclusive, welcoming space where every parent and guardian feels encouraged to get involved — in whatever way works best for you. Whether you have just a few minutes here and there, or you’re ready to jump into a project, there’s a place for you in our Hazeldale team.

Most of our PTO members are working parents, and we all help where and when we can — it’s the strength of our school community that makes the difference.

If you’d like to learn more about the PTO and/or volunteer opportunities, please fill out the Google Form below. We can’t wait to connect with you and make this year amazing for our kids and school community.
