⭐ Principal's Message

Way'/Hello/Bonjour,

Leadership students will be promoting and organizing a Spirit Day on Friday, October 16. This is to promote that EVERY Friday at KLO is a Spirit Day, and we encourage students and staff to wear KLO swag and/or KLO colours (blue and red). KLO student Spirit Wear is now available. Click HERE to order. All profits generated from these sales go to our KLO PAC.

The fine arts programs and classrooms have been busy this week. Art students have been out in the hallways working on 3D drawings and in the classroom working on portraits. The Theatre classes are working on their Aladdin performances and it is always so exciting to see these shows coming to life. What talent we have here at KLO!

Discovery Days will be starting on November 5, and the Discovery Day selection booklet was sent home to our KLO families today. Please remind your child to get their picks in as soon as possible. Please click HERE to see the Discovery Day course descriptions.

Students will heading out on general Field Studies throughout the school year. In order for students to participate in these opportunities, the general Field Studies form must be completed by a guardian. We are still missing a lot of permission forms for general Field Studies. Please click HERE to complete this form and use code: 273376.

Lastly, I want to congratulate our KLO Girls volleyball teams for their participation in the Best of the West Tournament and their league play. They are doing such a great job building their skills and representing our school. Our Cross-Country team is also racing well, and our Rugby team hits the field to play Springvalley Middle School for their first game of the season today.

Go Cougars!

Please remember that there is no school on Friday, October 9 or Monday, October 12.

Have a great Thanksgiving weekend, KLO.

KLO Parking Lot

Please avoid using staff parking areas and be sure to leave the bus lanes on Gordon Drive accessible, at all times.

  • To ensure student safety, we kindly ask that you respect the signage and flow of the parking lot.
  • We encourage families to arrange drop-off and pick-up spots that are off campus, such as Okanagan College, Evangel Church, or Lanfranco Road.
  • Dropping off a little earlier or picking up a little later is also very helpful.
  • While waiting for your student(s), please do not let your car idle in the parking lot to ensure the health and wellbeing of everyone.

Thank you so much for your patience, understanding and support.

Attention E-Scooters and E-bike Owners

E-Bikes and Electric Kick Scooters: As part of our shared commitment to student safety and well-being, we want to ensure all families are aware of the BC government’s regulations regarding the use of e-bikes and electric kick scooters. E-bikes and electric kick scooters have specific regulations under BC law to ensure safety and compliance. They also have a minimum age requirement: E-bikes (minimum age 16 -14 years for certain bikes), and E-scooters (minimum age of 16). Why this matters? Our school has a responsibility to support safe travel for all students. We can work together to prevent accidents and ensure that students are not unknowingly placed in unsafe or unlawful situations. We kindly ask for your partnership in reinforcing these expectations at home. More information can be found at the following links: E-Scooters and E-Bikes.

The Central Okanagan School District's Appeals Process

Board Policy 3090 – Appeals states that, "A student or a parent of a student who is entitled to an educational program in the Central Okanagan Public Schools may appeal a decision of an employee of the Board of Education which significantly affects the education, health or safety of the student". Such procedures will preserve the dignity of families who may be unable to pay". Please contact the school Principal if you are facing a financial hardship that may restrict the ability of your child to access a school program.

Please also ensure to include the following information in your September, January and June Newsletters:

The Central Okanagan School District's Sanctuary Schools Policy

Board Policy 4030 – Sanctuary Schools (see www.sd23.bc.ca) upholds the Board's commitment to providing educational opportunities for all students who are ordinarily resident in the Central Okanagan, including those with precarious immigration status or no immigration status.
