FHS Student Handbook - Please Read! FHS Student Handbook - Please Read!

Even though we are a few weeks away from the first day of school, please take time to read through our FHS Student Handbook with your learner (s). All learners are expected to know this information and we appreciate your help and support. One big change this year that I will provide more guidance around is updated Reporting and Grading Practices:

REPORTING & GRADING PRACTICES

GRADING PHILOSOPHY:

Farmington High School is committed to grading practices that are meaningful, consistent, accurate, and focused on learning. We believe a grade must be a transparent report of academic achievement and serve all learners. By distinguishing between practice (formative work) and performance (summative evaluations), we ensure that every grade provides a meaningful measure of your progress toward course objectives. This system guarantees that regardless of the classroom, an FHS grade represents a reliable and honest reflection of your knowledge.

COURSE GRADE WEIGHTING:

To reflect a true measure of academic achievement, your grade in any course will be divided into two main categories as determined by department:

  • Summative Assessments (Academic Performance): Worth a minimum of 80% of your final grade. This includes major demonstrations of learning such as tests, projects, essays, and unit assessments.

  • Formative Assessments (Academic Practice): Worth a maximum of 20% of your final grade. This includes practice, daily assignments, and drill work you complete as you learn new concepts.

  • No extra credit will be given.

GRADING SCALE:

FHS adheres strictly to the following grading scale:

  • A: 93–100%

  • A-: 90–92%

  • B+: 87–89%

  • B: 83–86%

  • B-: 80–82%

  • C+: 77–79%

  • C: 73–76%

  • C-: 70–72%

  • D+: 67–69%

  • D: 63–66%

  • D-: 60–62%

  • F: 0–59%

Note: Grades are officially reported in Campus as A (no A+), B (+/-), C (+/-), D (+/-), F, I (Incomplete), P (Pass), or NC (No Credit).

GRADE MONITORING:

Academic progress is ongoing. All in-progress grades (A–F) will be updated every 3 weeks on Infinite Campus so you and your families can consistently track your academic standing.

DEADLINES:

  • If a summative assessment or major assigned work is not turned in by the due date, you must meet with your teacher to discuss an actionable plan to complete the work.

  • Submitting a summative assessment late means you forfeit your eligibility for a retake on that assessment (unless an extension plan was explicitly approved by the teacher prior to the original deadline).

  • All formative work connected to a unit must be turned in by the time you participate in the corresponding summative assessment. Failure to do so will forfeit your opportunity for a retake.

RETAKES:

  • Eligibility: All students are eligible for retakes on summative assessments (with the exception of the Final Meaningful Learning Experience/Final Exams).

  • Credit: All eligible retakes have the potential to earn up to 100% of the credit. Individual departments determine which of the two scores is entered into the grade book (e.g., the "best" score vs. the "most recent" score).

  • Limits: Students are allowed one retake per summative assessment.

  • Timeline: You have 2 school days from the time you receive feedback on your initial summative assessment to officially request and set up a retake (via Google Form, email, office hours, Tiger Pride time, etc.).

  • Requirements: Targeted re-learning must occur before a retake can be administered. Additionally, all formative practice work tied to that unit must be completely submitted prior to taking the retake.

  • Exceptions: Summative assessments turned in late or missed due to an unexcused absence are not eligible for a retake.

Educational Benefits 2026-2027 Educational Benefits 2026-2027

Don’t Forget to Fill Out Your 2026–2027 Educational Benefits Application! As we get ready for the new school year, please take a moment to complete the 2026–2027 Educational Benefits Application.

Applying is quick and convenient! You can access the application in multiple languages through our Online Educational Benefits Application. Paper copy English and Spanish forms are accessible on our Food Services web page or in the main office.

Picture Day and Open House! Picture Day and Open House!

Our back to school picture and iPad pick day will be Tuesday, August 18 from 9:00 - 5:00 pm and Open House will be Wednesday, August 26th from 3:30 - 7:30 pm.

Learners are asked to attend at least one of these two days to get their picture taken (seniors included), pick up their student ID, as well pick up their Ipad if it was returned last Spring. Please remember to fill out the Ipad Loan Agreement BEFORE picking up your Ipad.

For new to FHS families we will have two welcoming presentations during Open House on August 26 in our Recital Hall. We will offer a 4:00pm and a 6:00pm option in hopes of accommodating work schedules. Each session will be about 30 minutes long. I will make sure one of them gets recorded so we can share out to families unable to attend. Open House is also a great way for learners to walk their schedules and get to know their teachers!

Both of these days are also helpful for making approved changes to schedule (more information below in our Counselor section), turning in any medication to our nursing staff, and picking up yearbooks from last year.

Hope to see you in the coming weeks!!!

IMPORTANT: Message From Marschall Lines (Transportation) IMPORTANT: Message From Marschall Lines (Transportation)

As summer is seemingly flying by, I would like to start pushing communication out to ALL 11th and 12th graders in regards to busing needs.

Every year we “un-route” all 11th and 12th grade students as they tend to start driving and we don’t get notified overstating load counts on the buses. We MUST receive a call/email/online form(new) from all 11th and 12th grade students/parents if they NEED to utilize the bus… regardless if they used it last year or not as an 11th grader.

Three ways to notify us:

  • Call 651-463-8689 anytime between the hours of 7 am and 5 pm
  • Send an email to mlidispatch@mncoaches.com stating students name and that they will need the bus for the upcoming school year!!
  • Preferred: Direct link to website form: https://www.marschallline.com/farmington-11th-and-12th-graders-ride-request/
  • Or direct them to the website: https://www.marschallline.com/ and proceed to the “for parents” tab where there is a link to the form above.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Marschall Lines directly. Thank you!

FAQS

When is my learner's first day of school?

Freshman and Link Crew ONLY will kick-off the school year on Monday, August 31st. We will welcome back ALL 9-12 on Tuesday, September 1st!

When will I see my learners schedule?

Schedules are still in the process of being reviewed and modified. Learners will have their schedules available to them before our August 18th Picture/Ipad Day/Schedule change day. More information will come out in the weeks ahead!

What do I need to get for school supplies?

We do not provide specific supply lists as these supply needs vary by course and teacher. Open House is a great time to connect with teachers on what they might recommend as far as supplies. Until then, we recommend the following: pencils, pens, highlighter, notebook, folders, planners and headphones to connect to their iPad. Math courses will either need a Texas Instruments Ti30 or Texas Instruments Ti84 if on an accelerated track starting in 9th grade. We have also found that having an extra charger in a students backpack is helpful for Ipads. Please make sure these are charged for Day 1!

Does my child need a locker?

All 9th and 10th grade learners are assigned a locker. Juniors and Seniors will need to request a locker in the 3rd floor counseling office during Open House. Lockers are optional for students to use as most learners carry a backpack from class to class.

I wanted to make sure to share this update before the first day of school as this is only the second year we have followed this process for absences. This year we will be using an online form, similar to last year. Please use this link HERE or scan the QR code to put in an absence for your learner. Please note that a parent email is required! Any absence request coming from a student account will not be processed. We will have this form located on our weekly newsletters as well as on our webpage. Please bookmark and save on your phone for easy access as we will no longer be accepting phone calls related to absences. Thank you for you time and attention to this matter!

Hello Tiger Families,

It feels like the year just ended, but we are already looking forward to the 26-27 school year. We have some changes coming to the FHS Counseling Department that we want to share with you.

Please join us in welcoming Katie O’Connor and Lisa Lipins to our team! With our new additions, we are adjusting our alphabet breakdown to more evenly distribute the students. Take a moment to review your student’s counselor as they may have changed.

  • Katie O’Connor (working with last names A-Bn)

    • koconnor@farmington.k12.mn.us (651) 252-2543

  • Aria Afdjeie (working with last names Bo-F)

    • aafdjeie@farmington.k12.mn.us (651) 252-2562

  • Lisa Lipins (working with last names G-Kr)

    • llipins@farmington.k12.mn.us (651) 252-2565

  • Anna Steedman (working with last names Ks-O)

    • asteedman@farmington.k12.mn.us (651) 252-2568

  • Jerry Pfau (working with last names P-Ss)

    • jpfau@farmington.k12.mn.us (651) 252-2561

  • Chelsy Newman (working with last names St-Z)

    • cnewman@farmington.k12.mn.us (651) 252-2571

Additionally, we will be implementing a new schedule change process for the 26-27 academic year. Students should review their schedules in Infinite Campus after August 17th, once they are posted. To request a change, students should complete the schedule change form by midnight on August 26th: https://forms.gle/LRyH39b6BZF8T1R46.

Updated schedules will be visible in Infinite Campus once the change(s) has/have been made. If students do not see their requested updates, they can connect with their counselor during the drop-in schedule change times on Tuesday, August 18th from 9:00 am-2:00 pm and Wednesday, August 26th from 3:00-5:00 pm.

Please understand, schedule changes will be limited due to course availability and class sizes.

All academic change requests must be completed prior to the start of the trimester. A great deal of time and effort is put forth to schedule students in the classes that they and their parents request during the registration process. Therefore, all schedule change requests must be for educational reasons only.

We look forward to connecting with you when we return in a few weeks.

Enjoy the rest of your summer,

FHS Counseling Department

Senior Guide - UNDER CONSTRUCTION!!!

Have questions about graduation? Senior Pictures? How about how to order cap and gown and pay for graduation fees? Or how does my student request a transcript or letter of recommendation for college applications?

Please save this Senior Guide to refer to throughout the school year. This will help seniors and parents navigate their final year at FHS.
