Guidance Info: Testing for Juniors!
Dear Junior Parents & Students,
As we begin our fall semester, we want to make you aware of the testing opportunities available this fall for the class of 2027.
Practice ACT:
This September all juniors at KHS will have the opportunity to take a practice ACT exam. This test will be given September 23rd during the KHS school day at NO COST.
Registration
The Practice ACT is given to all KHS students in the junior class. All juniors are automatically registered.
Test Day
Tuesday, September 23rd is the test date of the Practice ACT in 2025. This exam is a new full-length enhanced ACT, and it will include a Science section! This ACT matches with timing, format, and number of questions (without writing) that gives each student a real-time composite score as well as each subsection score. Testing will begin at 7:45 am in the Holley and Denver Miller Gyms. Students should bring their school ID, a #2 pencil and a calculator (see list of approved calculators here). Students can expect to spend the first four hours of their school day taking the practice ACT.
How will students receive scores?
Scores will be emailed to the student's Kirkwood gmail account and will show an individual report and breakdown of exam performance.
Important: Because this practice test is NOT officially scored and NOT governed by ACT, no local accommodations will be provided in an attempt to provide good practice experience. Applications for testing accommodations for a real ACT are coordinated by grade level counselors or SSD case managers, please contact them directly for more information.
2) PSAT (optional):
The PSAT is a practice exam for the SAT. It is a shortened version of the SAT. The PSAT is given in October every year and students take the exam at Kirkwood High School. This exam is NOT mandatory.
In order to qualify for the National Merit Competition, you must take this exam as a junior. If you have more questions about the PSAT please go here or contact your grade level or college counselor. Applications for testing accommodations for testers are coordinated by grade level counselors or SSD case managers. Please contact them for more information.
Registration:
Students will register and pay for the exam using this link. The cost of the test is $20 and may be paid online with credit card/debit card/check to Total Registration. Payment of the exam ensures your registration.
Registration closes on September 19th at 3pm and all test fees must be submitted by this deadline. This is a College Board deadline to ensure time for file uploads as this is a fully digital exam.
Test Day Information:
Tuesday, October 14th is the test date of the PSAT in 2025. The exam will be digital this year (no paper and pencil). Testing will begin at 7:45 am in the Holley and Denver Miller Gyms. Students should bring their school ID, a #2 pencil, an approved calculator and their school laptop fully charged. Students can expect to spend the first three hours of the school day taking the PSAT.
*Students who have approved accommodations will be notified of their testing location at a later date and may take longer than three hours to complete.

Junior Parking at KHS!
Welcome to the start of the 2025-2026 school year!
This is a reminder that our school parking lots are available for the senior class (Dougherty Ferry parking lot) and junior class (Essex parking lot) of KHS. Parking passes are available for $20.00 and can be purchased on myschoolbucks.com or by cash or check in the 10th grade office (Mr. Clark/Ms. Piotrasche). Every junior and senior student who wishes to purchase a parking sticker will be granted one. You may purchase this product at any given time during the 2025/26 school year. Please be aware that there are more students than parking spots available. Purchasing a parking sticker will not guarantee you a spot, even if you were the first to purchase one. Street parking is available if you cannot find a space on campus. If you park illegally, you will be ticketed $10.00. These details and more can be reviewed in our parking rules and regulations. During the first week of school, students will have the opportunity to pick up their sticker (if they have not done so already) in the 10th grade office and they will not be ticketed during this time frame.
If you have purchased a sticker, we also ask that your student fill out this Parking Google Form so that KHS has documentation on your child’s vehicle. This form must be completed in order to receive the parking sticker. We apologize in advance for this extra step. It does provide us with the most accurate information, i.e., who is on our campus, who is parking illegally, etc. Our greatest desire is to keep our campus safe, and this helps tremendously.
Mr. Clark/Ms. Piotrasche
Parking Rules & Regulations
All juniors and seniors MUST purchase a sticker and have it on the FRONT bottom passenger side of your car at all times - NOT the driver’s side.
SENIORS (RED parking sticker) - may park ONLY on the Dougherty Ferry lot or Science in non-numbered spots
JUNIORS (BLUE parking sticker) - may park ONLY on the Essex lot
NO STUDENT IS ALLOWED TO PARK ON THE CHOPIN LOT AT ANY TIME
No parking in numbered spots (staff parking), in visitor’s spots, fire lanes and striped areas
No parking in a way to block buses, other cars and emergency vehicles and non-designated parking spots
Parking will be on a first come, first serve basis
IF YOU ARE PARKED ILLEGALLY, YOU WILL BE TICKETED. Each ticket received is $10 and must be paid in the collections office in the library. After receiving 3 tickets, your parents will be contacted, additional consequences (detention/ISS) could be issued and you could lose your parking privileges (a refund will not be issued).
Walking Counselors will be patrolling the parking lot every day and will ticket each one that does not have a sticker on their windshield, and anyone parked illegally.
Per school code, we have handicapped spaces. We will ticket if you are illegally parked in a handicapped spot and the Kirkwood Police Department may also ticket. Their fines are much more expensive than our $10 fines. DO NOT PARK IN HANDICAPPED SPACES!
Please see the message below from First Student! (Kirkwood bus riders only)
You are receiving this message as a family member of a student who rides a bus in the Kirkwood School District.
Our transportation vendor recently updated their FirstView app with enhanced security. In order to access the app, you will need to download the FirstView 1.0 app from your app store. In order to view your student’s trip, you will need the district code (J3Y6H) and your student’s student ID and last name.
We have received several inquiries from families who did not have the district code for today - our apologies for any confusion this may have caused.
We have also heard from families who have received a “student not found” message in the app. This is likely due to bus routes being updated in the system. This can cause temporary interruptions in the app’s ability to display student information. Full route details will be updated and available soon.
If you have specific transportation questions specific to your student, please reach out to your school’s front office.
Thank you.

Cultural Leadership is a year-long fellowship for Sophomores and Juniors starting December '25 where students meet monthly on Sunday afternoons in locations across the St. Louis region to talk about issues important to them, develop leadership skills, and build meaningful relationships with each other. Additionally, students participate in three overnight retreats in St. Louis and embark on a 2-week Transformational Journey in June where they travel across the East Coast and South, visiting sites and meeting with individuals significant to Black and Jewish history and culture as well as social change movements. That said, students don't need to be Black and/or Jewish to be part of the program and we use these identities as frameworks to explore many different communities. Please let me know if you have any other questions or would like to talk more about the program.
Students can apply online here or use the QR code on the flyer.
