Measles Updates
Measles cases have been on the rise across Texas, with recent outbreaks reported in multiple counties. Measles is a highly contagious disease that spreads through coughing, sneezing, and close contact with infected individuals. Due to its high transmission rate, even a single case can lead to an outbreak, especially in areas with low vaccination rates.
Measles can cause fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a rash that spreads over the body. Serious complications can occur, including pneumonia, brain swelling, and even death.
The best way to prevent getting sick is to be immunized against measles. Two doses of the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine are highly effective at preventing measles.
Call your healthcare provider immediately if you think you or your child have been exposed to measles.
If you think you have measles or have been exposed to someone with measles, isolate yourself from others and call your healthcare provider before arriving to be tested so they can prepare for your arrival without exposing other people to the virus. Review your and your child’s vaccination history to see if you are current on your measles-containing vaccines. Additionally, discuss your vaccination history and any questions about these vaccines with your provider.

TELPAS Testing Schedule
What is TELPAS?
The Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS) is an English language proficiency assessment aligned to the Texas English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS). This assessment is designed to assess the progress that emergent bilingual (EB) students make in learning the English language. TELPAS fulfills ESSA requirements for assessing EB students in kindergarten through grade 12 in four language domains: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
Who is Tested?
Grades K–1 include:
holistically rated observational assessments of listening, speaking, reading and writing
Grades 2–12 include online tests for:
listening and speaking
reading and writing
What is Tested?
All EB students in kindergarten through grade 12 enrolled in Texas public schools or open-enrollment charter schools are required to participate in TELPAS. EB students are required to be assessed annually with an English language proficiency assessment until they meet EB reclassification criteria.

TheTexas State Assessment, known as STAAR (State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness), is an annual standardized test for students in grades 3 through 12. It measures their knowledge and skills in core subjects like reading, math, science, and social studies. The results help evaluate student progress and determine whether they meet the state’s educational standards. It's an important tool for ensuring that students are on track for success in their academic journey.

The National Education Association (N.E.A.) aims to encourage reading and educate people about its benefits, especially among children and young adults.

Spring Collegiate Prep Book Fair
March 3-7, 2025
Attention Parents!!!
Book fair is this week! Students received fliers for the book fair last week during library time. Sales will start on Monday and will be every day next week from 8:05-3:15.
We are only accepting eWallet, Tap to Pay, and credit cards for this book fair. To set up your eWallet, go to https://www.scholastic.com/bf/prep and scroll down to the red section with the eWallet logo and follow the directions. This is by far the easiest and safest way for your scholar to purchase things at the book fair.
You can create your own Scholastic eWallet account and add money for your scholar to use. You can print out a barcode for your scholar to use in the book fair or your scholar can just alert Mrs. Salgado that they have an eWallet when they visit the book fair and we can look up their balance.
This is the best way for the younger scholars to safely shop at the book fair so we don't have to worry about lost money. In addition, if you have any requirements for your scholar (buy a book first not toys, buy only chapter books, buy just picture books, etc.) please send your scholar with a note or email Mrs. Salgado at allison.salgado@chisd.net and please include your scholar's grade and homeroom teacher.
Please reach out to Allison Salgado with any further questions. Thanks for supporting our book fair!
