Summer 2023
Chestatee Elementary
A Letter From Dr. Tennies, Our Principal
Dear Families,
Happy Summer! As you drive by Chestatee in June, you will notice our parking lot is practically empty. Traveling on 306 in the morning is a breeze. I am grateful for our time together this school year, and proud of the effort shown by our students and staff. We accomplished a lot this year at Chestatee.
A few essential people are still @ the T during the summer. Our custodian team is hard at work on summer deep cleaning, emptying rooms, moving furniture, waxing floors and prepping for the 23-24 school year. Our front office staff are also busy completing tasks and already thinking about what comes next. Starting a new year takes planning.
Here are some activities this summer I would like to share. Check these events out over the next two months:
- The Hill Center assists parents with new students in registering. Here is a link with more details: https://www.forsyth.k12.ga.us/Page/45168 I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to get that registration complete now.
- The beautiful Forsyth County Bookmobile will be parked in front of our school in the parking lot in June and July this summer. It is a wonderful opportunity to get some great books for reading! Mark your calendar for June 20th and July 18th from 1:30-2:30pm. There is usually a crowd playing some yard games too.
- Hampton Park Library is open for business and checking out books for summer readers. Here is a link to their website for hours:
https://www.forsythpl.org/hampton-park-library Whenever I walk in , I always run into someone I know. What a great community for readers.
- Kindergarten Bus Round Up is Monday, July 25th . Ride the bus to Chestatee with other Kindergarteners and their Parents. Bus drivers have access to call their passengers who are FULLY REGISTERED for kindergarten.
- Welcome to Class Phone Calls from Faculty are Monday, July 31st. This day you will get a call from your new teacher for the 2023-24 school year.
- Open House is Tuesday, August 1st. This is a great time to walk the school, find resources and begin a new year.
- The First Day of School is Thursday, August 3rd.
I wish you and your family a safe and joyful summer, and I look forward to seeing you on campus at Open House.
Together we are Chestatee!
Kindly,
Dr. Polly Tennies
Principal

Congratulations to Rock Reed and Cathy Prince as they head into retirement!
We are proud to announce Diana Gore as our May Staff Member of the Month!
Diana Gore teaches first grade. She obtained her bachelor’s degree with honors from Kennesaw State University and her master’s degree in education from Mercer University. She has taught kindergarten, first grade, and second grades. She also has taught summer school (and worked as a long term sub) in third through fifth grade. Mrs. Gore has served as science chair, math expert, and as an EIP teacher.
Diana and her husband, James, have been married for 20 years. They have two boys. Caleb, a former Chestatee Eagle is 12 and in 6th grade. Cam is 9 and in third grade at the T! Diana loves church and spending time with her family. Her passion is passing joy and making a difference. Diana is a motherly figure who is her students’ greatest cheerleader. She has been nominated multiple times this year. The latest nomination said, “Mrs. Gore gave my son confidence in himself, and I am forever grateful!” Diana’s gifts to teaching are developing positive relationships and helping all students to feel loved, valued, and safe. Her love for learning is contagious. Diana is proud and thankful to be a Chestatee Eagle! We feel so very grateful that Mrs. Gore is part of our staff at the T.
Thank you, Mrs. Gore, for all you do to make Chestatee a better place. Congratulations on this great honor. A big thank you to our Chestatee Elementary PTO and Mathnasium of Coal Mountain for sponsoring our Chestatee Staff Member of the Month Program!
