The Dawg Dispatch

On Monday, August 18, 2025, Mrs. Calvert’s 6th grade social studies students became paleontologists for the day!

Using two chocolate chip cookies, a toothpick, and a paintbrush, students conducted a “fossil excavation.” The cookies represented rocks, the chocolate chips served as fossils, the toothpick was their chisel, and the paintbrush helped sweep away the dirt and particles. Their challenge was to carefully remove the “fossils” without breaking the “rock.”

Students loved the hands-on learning, and many said the best part was eating their “rocks” at the end! A few even said the activity inspired them to consider becoming paleontologists when they grow up.

Mrs. Calvert shared, “The students really enjoyed this activity, and it was exciting to see them connect learning with future career dreams.”

Our 7th & 8th grade band students are practicing with passion under the direction of Ms. Mims and assistant director Mr. Turner. From steady rhythm to powerful teamwork, their hard work is making the music come alive! 🎺🥁

The excitement in the band room is contagious, and we can’t wait to see these talented students shine when they take the stage. 🎵👏

Our Aberdeen High School band tubas are sporting brand new bell covers! These additions not only give our instruments a sharp, unified look but also help showcase Bulldog pride every time the band plays.

We’re excited to see (and hear!) our tubas shining even brighter this season. 🎶🐾

Mrs. Calvert’s 6th-grade small groups were bumping this week! Students brought history to life by digging into historical texts, identifying the main idea, and even enjoying a Main Idea Rap. The energy was high, the learning was fun, and the Bulldog spirit was shining through every beat!

This message reminds us that learning is a partnership between teacher and student. Teachers are here to guide, support, and challenge, but real growth happens when students take ownership of their learning by showing curiosity, working hard, and believing in themselves.

Aberdeen Elementary kicked off the year with their very first Monday Media Madness, and it was a huge success! There was a wonderful turnout, with parents and grandparents showing up to support our students. 💙🐾

Thank you for helping encourage a love of reading and for motivating our Bulldogs to start the year strong as they work toward their AR goals!

The Mississippi Department of Education invites students in grades 11-12 to apply for selection to the 2025-26 State Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council. Online applications must be submitted by Monday, Aug. 25.

Spotlight: Social Contracts in Action!

From Aberdeen Elementary to Aberdeen High, students are setting the standard for respect, kindness, and responsibility through classroom Social Contracts.

In Mrs. Bell’s and Mrs. Williams’ classes at AES, students created and signed agreements that focus on honesty, fairness, and effort.

At AHS, Ms. Wells’ students built their Social Contracts centered on kindness, empathy, and understanding.

These contracts are more than posters; they’re commitments! Students are holding each other accountable, supporting their classmates, and showing that they are truly “Saddled Up for Success!”

Congratulations to Kaitlyn Hubbard, an Aberdeen High School senior, for winning an essay contest on how the film Mississippi Scholar impacted her life. 🌟

We are so proud of Kaitlyn for her hard work and thoughtful reflection. Her accomplishment is a shining example of Bulldog excellence! 💙🐾

Aberdeen Elementary School is headed to Mask Family Farms for an exciting day of hay rides, petting zoo fun, train rides, pumpkins, and more!

To join in on the fun, students must:

Have no bus or office referrals
