š§” It's Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week š§”
It's Teacher Appreciation Week (May 4-8), and weād love for our whole community to join in celebrating the incredible work our teachers and staff do every day!
Our PTO has put together fun ways to show appreciation with a different theme each day, from sweet notes to small treats and classroom supplies.
Please take a look at the flyer for the daily ideas, and feel free to participate in whatever way works best for your family.
Thank you for helping us make this a special week for our amazing teachers and staff!
Time to Shine, Grades 3-8!
Weāre kicking off state CAASPP testing on Monday for our 3rdā8th graders. A few simple ways to help your child feel ready:
- Good sleep the night before (it really helps!)
- Breakfast in the morning
- Arriving on time is very important... testing starts right away!
- A little encouragement goes a long way š
Weāve seen how hard our students have been working, and this is their chance to show what they know and all the progress they've made this year.
Letās gooooooo, Tigers!
An April Art Enrichment Update
In celebration of Earth Day, students explored Earthās biomes and selected their favorite to illustrate. They thoughtfully included plant life and animals unique to each environment. These creative biome artworks were proudly displayed during Open House. It was wonderful to see so many families enjoying the studentsā work!
Our upper graders (3ā5) also had a special opportunity to design mini posters to be displayed at Barnes & Noble, welcoming renowned author Joshua Pruett on Saturday, May 9th from 11:00 AMā2:00 PM.
We wrapped up the month with striking bald eagle artworks. Using a mixed media approachācombining oil pastels and watercolorāstudents created truly breathtaking pieces.
Enjoy all the incredible artwork your scholars have created!

Crosswalk Volunteers
Weāre looking for a few helping hands to support student safety at
the crosswalks before and after school.
Our PTO is ready to organize volunteers to help students cross the street
safely and PMO has agreed to provide training.
If youāre able to help, even occasionally, please reach out to our PTO at northterracepto@yahoo.com
PTO Support Needed
The PTO plays a vital role in supporting our students and staff through events, fundraising, and volunteer efforts. At this time, however, itās facing a serious challenge: without new volunteers stepping into key leadership and support roles, the PTO will not be able to continue.
We are currently looking for parents who are willing to serve in essential positions for the upcoming school year. Even a small amount of your time can make a meaningful difference for our students.
If youāve ever considered getting more involved, this is a great opportunity to make a real impact. If youāre interested in learning more or volunteering, please reach out to northterracepto@yahoo.com
.Letās work together to keep the PTO - and all it brings to our students - going strong!

Caring for Our Military-Connected Students and Families
With everything that is happening in the world today, we recognize that many military families may be experiencing added stress and uncertainty. In addition to our school counselor, Mrs. Rogers, we have our Military Family Life Counselor (MFLC), Ms. Wences, available to support military-connected families as they navigate this challenging time.
Ms. Wences can provide confidential counseling services to children and youth up to age 18 in groups and individually, as well as their families. MFLCs provide support on topics including but not limited to separation from parents, deployment/reunification, sibling/parent relationships, feelings identification, self-esteem, bullying, and problem solving.
Whether your child needs someone to talk to, or you would like guidance on ways to support your student at home/school, services are available. We are here to support and connect our families with any resources that may be helpful during this time.
If you would like Military & Family Life Counseling support or have any questions, please feel free to contact Ms. Wences at 760-901-7550 (office)/541-805-6312 (cell).

Riding to School? 4 Things to Know š² š“š¹
We love seeing students start their day with some great exercise by biking, skating, or scootering to school! Here are 4 things for families to know:
1. Helmets Required! A buckled helmet is required every time. No helmet = no riding. Itās the law and protects growing brains!
2. E-Bikes: 12+, Permit, Rear Light/Reflector Needed! Students must be 12 years or older AND have a valid OUSD e-bike permit to bring an e-bike on campus. New Requirement: All E-bikes are now required to have a red reflector or red rear light (solid or flashing) visible from 500 feet at all times.
3. Walk it on Campus! Bikes, scooters, and skateboards must be walked on campus (and when leaving). It's time to hop off and start walking when you get to the A-frame signs posted along the sidewalks.
4. Park it in the Racks! Bikes & scooters must be parked in designated bike racks. Propping against the fence not only looks tacky, but bikes and scooters do tip over and become a tripping hazard.
Thank you for partnering with us to keep our campus a safe and welcoming place for all!
Pick-up and Drop-off Safety Reminders
Arrival and dismissal can be a busy and exciting time for students, especially on Wednesdays when all of our students dismiss at the same time. To help keep everyone safe, we ask families to please talk with their children about safe street-crossing habits.
Please remind your student to use crosswalks, walk their bikes or scooters when crossing, look both ways, and avoid darting between parked cars. These simple reminders at home reinforce our school expectations and make a big difference in keeping dismissal safe for all of our students, pedestrians, and drivers.
Additionally, to help keep pick-up and drop-off safe and smooth, please remember that families are to use the designated loading zone in front of the school. For safety reasons, students should not be dropped off or picked up in the parking lot.
Thank you for partnering with us to support a safe and smooth dismissal for everyone!
Need Tutoring? Weāve Got You Covered!
Now that report cards are out, this is a great time to check in with your child and see where a little extra help might be useful. Did you know that all of our 3rdā8th grade students have access to FREE live, online tutoring?
Tutor.com connects students with real tutors for one-on-one support in literacy, math, science, and more! Check out this fantastic way to build confidence and keep learning moving forward.
Free Mental Health Parent Resources for Parents!
We are partnering with parentguidance.org to offer families free, confidential mental health support.
Parents can access one-on-one coaching, on-demand courses (in English and Spanish), and even submit questions directly to licensed therapists.
These resources are available anytime, anywhere, at no cost to our families.
North Terrace Family Handbook 2025-26
Please take a few moments to read through our North Terrace Handbook.
It is a companion to our OUSD Parent Handbook and includes more specific information about North Terrace policies and procedures, and available supports for your student.
Reach out to our office if you have any questions!
Smart Watches & Cell Phones... During the Day, Off and Away
Our OUSD policy is: āDuring the Day, Off and Away!ā This means all personal devices ā including phones and smartwatches ā must be turned off and kept in backpacks from arrival until dismissal.
Please help us reinforce this expectation at home. When we work together, we create a focused learning environment that helps all our Tigers stay present, connected, and ready to learn!
