CLHS Academic and Career Center
August and September 2023
Hello Hawks!
As the year progresses, I will be updating this newsletter with scholarships, college updates, military news, and community service opportunities.
*New Updates*
- This week, I have added a new section called 'College Updates' including information from Texas A&M University-San Antonio and Tarleton University.
- There is also a scholarship below for all seniors that is due October 1st!
- For any students interested in becoming an esthetician or cosmetologist, AVEDA is hosting a fall event. Juniors and Seniors may use one of their College Visit Days to attend. Please get a form from Mrs. Stefinsky before you go!
Please be sure to scroll through and reach out if you have any questions!
Remember, I have created grade level Google Classrooms for each class where I will continue to upload school forms, information about colleges, and scholarships to keep your students informed throughout the year. If they have not already joined, the codes to do so are:
Class of 2024: xwlr2ql
Class of 2025: v3m5gsh
Class of 2026: s5bsdhu
Class of 2027: ffwt43j
Students will need to be logged into their Comal ISD G-mail account to access.
As you begin planning and talking about your student's post-secondary plan, please do not hesitate to reach out to me by email with your questions--I am happy to help! All of this information is also available on my website here.
I look forward to working with your students!

College Updates
Texas A&M University-San Antonio is proud to
announce the all-new Jaguar Promise!
Launching for the 2024-205 academic year, the Jaguar Promise program will award FREE tuition, fees, and books* to eligible first-year and transfer students.
This new promise program makes attaining a college degree a reality-with little to no debt- for high school AND transfer students in Texas who have worked hard, excelled in high school or earned an associate's degree.
A Message from Tarleton University:
This is a reminder that Tarleton is offering back-to-school fee waivers for students who submit an application by September 8th, 2023.Students will go to ApplyTexas and complete their application as usual, once they reach the last screen asking for the application fee payment, they should select the "fee waiver" option. Our system will automatically award the waiver once the application is processed.
Please note that:
- Starting the application on the 8th but finishing it at a later time will not grant a fee waiver. Applications must be submitted on the 8th.
- Students who have already submitted their application prior to the back-to-school fee waiver event (Sept. 1st - Sept. 8th) will not be receiving the waiver or a refund. Tarleton does not offer application fee refunds.

College, Career, and Military Rep Visits
Throughout the year, various college, career, and military representatives will be on campus to provide helpful information. Most visits will occur during lunches where a table will be set up in the rotunda. Students are encouraged to visit the table to ask questions and learn more about opportunities. Classroom visits will also be coordinated with the appropriate teacher/subject to provide a presentation to students detailing the application process, school programs, and more information about the institution.
Upcoming College Rep Visits
September 14th - Lincoln Tech (in library 3rd through 5th)
September 21st - Texas Tech University
September 25th - Texas Lutheran University
September 26th - Texas A&M University
ASVAB Testing
All 10th, 11th, and 12th graders:
If you are interested in taking the ASVAB test, please scan the QR code or click HERE to sign up!
What is the ASVAB?
The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery is a multiple-aptitude battery that measures developed abilities and helps predict future academic and occupational success. Taking the ASVAB and the interpretation will help with career planning and self-discovery of strengths.
Service Cord Opportunity
The Service Cord is a program that recognizes students who engage in a high level (quantitatively and qualitatively) of service to the community by awarding a service cord to be worn during the senior graduation ceremony. For guidelines, appropriate forms, and more information please see my Google Classroom or visit my website!
**Seniors must have the Declaration of Intent to Serve and at least 10 service hours on file by December to be eligible for this cord for graduation**
