The FAFSA Application Now Open!

Attention Seniors! The 2025–2026 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form is available early, due to an extended testing period by the U.S. Department of Education. Students can start submitting their FAFSA forms now!

We encourage students to complete the FAFSA as soon as they’re ready.

FAFSA Application

Why is the FAFSA Important?
Completing the FAFSA is a critical step for seniors planning to attend college. It unlocks access to federal financial aid, including grants, work-study opportunities, and federal student loans. It also allows students to be considered for state and school-specific aid (available in the Spring), reducing the overall cost of college and making higher education more affordable.

By submitting the FAFSA early, students can maximize their financial aid options and better plan for college.

For more information, you can watch the FAFSA overview presented by Cleveland State University to our Steele families this past October 10th. Watch the video here: FAFSA Overview Video.

Department News: Foreign Languages Department News: Foreign Languages

The World language department is not only learning how to speak, read and write Spanish and French but we are also embracing culture and immersing ourselves in the diversity offered by other countries.

Advanced Spanish 3- Senora Kasnyik

All classes are rocking to Locura de marzo ( March madness), hoping to have the best bracket. Students are learning about the artists, their countries of origin and analyzing the lyrics for colloquial differences and grammar structures. March madness voting is taking place internationally in Spanish classrooms so the students have to wait until all time zones have time to vote for each battle (2 days). This amazing and super fun activity involves over 130,000 students worldwide, providing community and global connections amongst students.

Students are anxious to see which song will rise to the top and win Locura de marzo 2025!

Spanish 3 is reading a mystery novel and trying to figure out why there is a hand in the sand.

The story provides insights into the culture and helps students embrace the diversity in another country. Students are noting grammatical structures in the reading, reinforcing vocabulary, and having reading comprehension checks while reading the story. In addition, students are reading aloud and also in small groups, enhancing their speaking/pronunciation of the language. Many predictions have been made about why the hand is in the sand and students are eager to read to see if their prediction is correct.

Spanish 2: Senora Volzer

Students are focusing on Los lugares (the places) vocabulary while they are engaged in mastering the preterite (simple past) tense. Students are learning about how shopping is slightly different in the Spanish speaking countries, with fewer big box stores and more specialized stores, like a perfumería (a perfume store). We have already simulated a shopping experience to buy clothing in class and now we will be “visiting” different places and stating where we went and what we did there. This activity will help students master the vocabulary, the preterite tense and allow them to practice speaking the language, as well as help develop their listening skills.

To further cultural awareness, we will be watching a movie about a high school student in Bolivia and how he must work in the mines to support the family, as well as attend school so that he can eventually leave the mines for a better and safer job in the future. We will use this movie to discuss culture diversity as well as compare and contrast elements to our culture. Furthermore, much of the vocabulary that we are studying will be used in the movie thus allowing students to hear the language in a native situation.

2026 International Cultural and Educational Trip to Peru!

IS YOUR CHILD INTERESTED IN IMMERSING IN ANOTHER CULTURE? WOULD YOUR CHILD LIKE TO TRY NEW FOODS? WOULD YOUR CHILD LIKE AN EDUCATIONAL AND CULTURAL EXPERIENCE THAT WILL PROMOTE PERSONAL GROWTH?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then perhaps your student should join us on the 2026 International Cultural and Educational Trip to PERU!

This phenomenal 10 day journey will take place March 26 2026-April 4, 2026 (this is during Spring Break).

For more information please go to www.explorica.com/Volzer-5717

You can enroll directly on this website. Enrollment is limited so enroll soon in this wonderful, once in a lifetime opportunity. If you have any questions you can contact Mrs. Lisa Volzer at lisa_volzer@amherstk12.org.

LCAAA Women's Leadership Conference

On Wednesday, March 12th twelve of our steele female student-athletes attended an LCAAA Women's Leadership Conference at HoopTech in North Ridgeville! This conference included female high school student-athletes from all 17 schools in Lorain County. The students heard powerful messages from female leaders from the high school, college, and professional levels, which will empower them to lead well in their prospective sports and schools. They also participated in different leadership activities, which allowed them to interact with female student-athletes from other schools.

It was a great event! Thank you to HoopTech for hosting and for Amy Esser and Shayna Hersh, from North Ridgeville, for organizing.
