Community Update
Hello North Rockland Families,
With just over a month left until the start of the 2026-27 school year on Tuesday, September 8, exciting preparations are underway across the North Rockland Central School District.
I am excited to announce the soft launch of our new SmartSites-powered northrockland.org webpage. The site is now live and families and community members are encouraged to begin exploring it. Over the coming weeks, district staff will continue reviewing content, updating pages and refining features to ensure information is accurate, accessible and easy to navigate. As improvements continue, users may notice updates to pages, links and content. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this transition as we continue improving the experience for everyone.
This summer, several projects are transforming learning and athletic spaces at North Rockland High School. Once completed, the renovated Library Learning Commons will provide students and teachers with flexible learning spaces, modern technology and expanded opportunities for research and collaboration. The Main and Annex Gyms are also being reimagined with higher ceilings, new windows and upgraded athletic features, including a retractable multisport cage, retractable bleachers and volleyball post sleeves. These improvements will enhance daily physical education while expanding opportunities to host practices, competitions and community events.
Thank you to our 12-month staff, non-instructional teachers, custodial and facilities teams for the tremendous work you have accomplished this summer! Your efforts ensure our school buildings are ready to welcome students, staff and families for another successful year.
Looking ahead, on Thursday, August 20, in partnership with the Town of Haverstraw and Haverstraw Police Department, NRCSD will host a Back to School Bash from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m at Haverstraw Elementary School. North Rockland families can enjoy free backpack and school supply giveaways, haircuts, live music, activities and a food distribution organized by our Family Resource Center and the Regional Food Bank.
We’re excited to welcome everyone back, beginning with our building-level Open Houses on Tuesday, September 1, from 1 to 3 p.m. Until then, enjoy the rest of the summer and stay tuned for more updates from around the district.

Summer Reading
Summer is a time for all of us to relax, recharge and to rediscover and find new passions. One of those passions that we want all of our students to develop is the joy of reading. Summer is the perfect time to read about something of interest or something fun. Academically, the benefits of summer reading are many, but they are secondary to developing a lifelong love of reading.
The North Rockland Central School District encourages students to read what they love this summer and participate in the New York State Senate’s 2026 summer reading program, themed “Unearth A Story".
This free program can be found on Senator Harckham’s website or accessed directly at www.nyread.com. Participating students and families can log their summer reading on the website and receive an official summer reading certificate as recognition of their dedication and achievement.
Need help finding a good book for free? Visit one of our excellent public libraries, Haverstraw King’s Daughter, Rose Memorial, and Tomkins Cove.
Read what you love! Have a great summer!

District-Provided School Supplies
As we prepare for the start of the 2026-27 school year, we do so with the knowledge that the North Rockland community is a special place in which parents and the school work together to provide our students with the best possible educational experience. We appreciate that partnership and feel that it is important that the NRCSD continue with its practice of providing Elementary students (Grades K-6) with the basic supplies necessary for success in school rather than putting that burden on to our families.
Classroom teachers have identified and ordered supplies and materials that students will need for the 2026-27 school year. Your child’s teacher will distribute them to students when school begins in September. Your child’s teacher may recommend a few additional items after school starts, but the majority of the supplies will be purchased and provided by the District.
On August 20 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Haverstraw Elementary School, the NRCSD, in partnership with the Town of Haverstraw and the Town of Haverstraw Police Department will be giving away backpacks and school supplies at our "Back to School Bash."

Alumni Spotlight
Olivia Leon - Class of 2023
Meet Olivia Leon, 2023 graduate of North Rockland and current softball player at St. Thomas Aquinas College!
During her time at North Rockland she was a four-year varsity standout. She was the team’s starting catcher for three seasons (her freshman season was canceled due to COVID-19). Batting in the heart of the lineup as our No. 3 hitter, she helped lead North Rockland to back-to-back Section One championships. In 2022, she delivered one of the biggest hits in program history - a walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat White Plains, 2-1, and capture the sectional title. In 2023, she helped guide the Red Raiders to a regional championship and a New York State Final Four appearance while hitting over .400 all season. Olivia earned All-League, All-Section, All-County, and All-State honors multiple times during her high school career.
Her success has continued at St. Thomas Aquinas College, where she has been the starting catcher since her freshman season. Now entering her senior year, Olivia is coming off a remarkable season that saw STAC win both the conference and regional championships before advancing to the NCAA Division II Women’s College World Series!
We couldn’t be more Raider Proud of everything Olivia has accomplished during her high school AND college years! We can’t wait to see what her senior season has in store! Best of luck Olivia on your senior season!
